This is episode number 271 of The Homeowner Show. Whether you're DIY or looking to hire, we're here to help you find the best information and options for you and your home. My name is Kevin Hackett, and here with me is Craig Williams.

CRAIG

Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to another episode of The Homeowner Show, live from the studio. How you doing, Kev?

KEVIN

I am fantastic. It is, uh, man, my favorite season of the year. Absolutely love it. It's Christmas. Yep, it's good. How are you doing, man? Good.

CRAIG

I think I've even got my official Merry Christmas shirt on.

KEVIN

Yeah, I see that.

CRAIG

Um, you got your Santa shirt on?

KEVIN

Yeah, so get the— you know, it's hard to see. There you go.

CRAIG

There you go.

KEVIN

Yeah, yeah.

CRAIG

So, well, every, every year, Kev, uh, we like to celebrate the reason for the season and drop a special episode where we share the Christmas story with everybody.

KEVIN

That's right.

CRAIG

But before we do that, I want to make sure that we thank our sponsor for our episode, brought to you by Lone Star Appliance Repair. You can reach them at 936-647-2364. You can also go over to their website, which is lonestarappliance.us. And one of the cool things that they, they have right now that I think a lot of people aren't aware of is just a general cleaning and maintenance package.

KEVIN

Oh, cool.

CRAIG

I didn't even know that. And they have tiers. I mean, you can do, like, your laundry room, your, your kitchen, or you can do— you can bundle it and put, like, your laundry room and kitchen together. A lot of people don't realize that you need to have particularly your, your washing machine and your dryer cleaned. No.

KEVIN

I mean, we talk about, like, I mean, often we talk about the importance of doing that with, like, your HVAC system.

CRAIG

Right.

KEVIN

You never think about it. I didn't even know that was a thing.

CRAIG

Yeah. Well, I mean, in cleaning your washing machine, it'll help your clothes smell better.

KEVIN

I can see that.

CRAIG

Yeah.

KEVIN

I mean, I, I guess I, I've used those little, like, those little tablets that you throw in there. Like, our washing machine actually tells us whenever it's time to clean it.

CRAIG

Right.

KEVIN

But there's probably more.

CRAIG

Let me tell you, there is, there's a lot more to it. It's a little bit more involved.

KEVIN

Yeah.

CRAIG

And, and the tablets are good. Don't get me wrong. It's better than nothing.

KEVIN

Right.

CRAIG

But it can be a little bit more involved than that and icky. So I bet if you don't want to do it yourself, which I don't recommend, right, call the team over at Lone Star Appliance Repair. They can, they can, you can do like a one-time cleaning or they can put you on a, on a schedule in a package and get that taken care of. I like it. Yeah, so give them a call. Thank you to our sponsor.

KEVIN

That's right.

CRAIG

Um, but like I said, man, like, you know, you and I are both believers.

KEVIN

That's right.

CRAIG

Uh, we believe in the resurrection of Jesus. And we believe that the Christmas season is about celebrating his coming.

KEVIN

Yes.

CRAIG

And his prophesied coming.

KEVIN

That's right.

CRAIG

And so every year around this time, we enjoy sharing the story.

KEVIN

That's right. I mean, do you realize— I mean, you do, I know. Do you realize how many prophecies were fulfilled?

CRAIG

I know that there's people that have documented it and listed it. I mean, it's crazy how many.

KEVIN

It's over 400. Right. It's over 400. And it's not— and most of them are not just something that are coincidence. I mean, there, there are things prophesied about stuff that the way he was born, you know, like odd things that, that couldn't have been predicted, right?

CRAIG

Right.

KEVIN

So I mean, it's just, it's, it's something that, that, um, was ingrained in me as, as a young boy, but as I've, I've grown and studied and learned myself, um, confirmed, right? So, uh, so we're gonna read, we're gonna read the, uh, the story of, uh, Jesus' birth. And, uh, what's interesting about this, um, you may not realize is that to really get a full picture of the birth of Jesus, you got to kind of look in, in multiple different gospels to kind of figure that out. But, um, we're going to read specifically out of Luke chapter 2. We're just going to read, um, this account right now. You ready?

CRAIG

I'm ready.

KEVIN

All right, here we go. In those days, Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was the governor of Syria, and everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem, the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. When he went there to register, with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no

KEVIN

guest room available for them. And there were shepherds living in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring to you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you. He is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: you'll find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, Glory to God in the

KEVIN

highest heaven, and on earth peace to those who fear— on whom his favor rests. When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about. So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the manger, When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds had said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had seen and heard, which

KEVIN

were just as they had been told. There you have it.

CRAIG

Awesome. Yeah. Thanks for reading for us, Kev.

KEVIN

Absolutely. I may have stumbled a minute or two.

CRAIG

It's all good. Yeah, no, it's fine. I mean, the story needs to be read every year.

KEVIN

It does.

CRAIG

I know it's part of our family's tradition, and it's a tradition we've set up for the show.

KEVIN

Yep, absolutely.

CRAIG

Hope everybody has a Merry Christmas.

KEVIN

Merry Christmas.

CRAIG

Anything else we need to tell everybody?

KEVIN

No, no. Just thanks for being here, man. We appreciate all of you.

CRAIG

And We love getting to share this with you guys every week.

KEVIN

That's right. And look, if, if you have questions about this, Kirk and I would love to talk to you.

CRAIG

Yeah.

KEVIN

And, uh, but you know, we're here for lots of things. The Homeowner Show, Jesus, all of it. So until next time, we'll see you later.

CRAIG

See ya.

Will New Laws Actually Lower Home Prices?

The Homeowner Show kicks off with a lighthearted, albeit slightly gross, discussion about an infestation of flies and a spider web in their studio, a stark contrast to the more serious topics that follow. This initial banter quickly transitions to personal anecdotes about home maintenance and repairs.
