This is episode number 363 of The Homeowner Show. Well, whether you're DIY or looking to hire, we're here to help you find the best information and options for you and your home. My name is Kevin Hackett, and here with me is Craig Williams.
Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to The Homeowner Show. We are so glad that you could join us for another live episode here in The Homeowner Show studios. What's going on, Kev?
Oh, you know, it's been about a week since we've hung out. It's been a little more than that.
I was gone on vacation for about 10 days.
Yeah, you were gone and I was gone and we've been gone and— but we're back.
We're back. So we got stuff to talk about. We got stuff to talk about. Where do you want to start?
Dude, let's get into the college football stuff because this was, in my opinion, one of the greatest weekends in college football. Okay. I mean, I think this kind of weekend is the kind of weekend that you live for. Okay.
In what way? I'm curious.
Upsets. I love upsets. Yeah. And we had some that almost happened and didn't, and then some that did happen and were amazing. Well, here's the thing. The problem for you is you probably weren't paying as much attention because your team wasn't playing.
No, we had a bye this week, and I was on— I was at a state park in the woods, Um, but I was still paying attention and, uh, did watch some of the—
So, and like I, I say one of the most amazing weekends in college football, all while at the same time my team lost.
they just, they just suck.
A&M is just imploded. I think Marcel Reid has shown his true self. And I— it's not just Marcel, man.
Like, here's the thing, I, I actually don't like Like one, and I talked about this last episode. I I don't think that he I don't think he's as good as everyone touted him to be.
I also don't think that it's entirely his fault.
the the one thing that most people aren't putting the microscope to with Texas A&M right now is the offensive coordinator. The big change that happened was Colin Klein.
And, and the offensive line, that's, that's in the mix as well. But they went out and recruited and, and, and got some guys out of the portal that should be able to play ball.
I think the big problem is the offensive coordinator and nobody's talking about it. And I don't know why. Like, he stinks.
Like his, like, and like I've, I've talked about this multiple times, his play calling sucks. And the people who are taking the brunt of it are Mike Elko And Marcel Reed.
Now, I think if you have somebody that actually knows how to scheme an SEC team, I don't think we'd be having the conversation about Marcel Reed. I don't think he would be in the Heisman contention like he was last year.
Which I, I, I think, I think people need to remember.
He was in the Heisman contention last year, which means the guy can actually play.
I'm not saying he's the greatest. I'm not saying he's the best. Fair. I'm saying the kid can play.
He can, he can scramble, he can throw, he can do all the things. I don't think he's the best, but like given the right scheme, I think the kid can play.
I think the offensive coordinator's the problem. He's, he's the variable in the mix that see, and like their offense does nothing. It's embarrassing.
It's bad. And I mean, it, it's bad.
So much so that Elko had like a very like controversial moment this past week where he called the, the Tex Ags message boards cesspool. And some people took that to mean that he was calling Billy Lucci a cesspool, which I don't think they're making— it's much ado about nothing, man. Sure. Like it was a frustrated head coach's comment after the end of a really, really bad loss.
So, I mean, to a team that you've owned—
And the 4th loss in a row. Third,
Yeah, yeah. LSU, UK, and now Missouri.
And it doesn't look like they're going to get any more W's.
Not, not in the SEC at least.
Um, it's, it's going to be a brutal year.
I mean, unless they make some changes.
I mean, and, and this is why I hate preseason rankings.
I, I, I still contend that week 5, week 6, which is right where we're at, mm-hmm, is when rankings should come out.
It'll, that'll never happen, man.
Because the media, I get it. The media giants have to put content out. They have to make predictions. It's, it's, it, it, it, it just is what it is. Like, I get that. We all have to live with it.
I just, but, but you see my point.
The reliability of them, like, that should be the thing that most people realize is like, these things are not reliable.
Like, we, we shouldn't buy into the idea that like people actually know what they're talking about because they actually, they haven't seen the thing out in the real world, which
is— and I'll say the same thing. I, I will say my team Texas Tech has benefited from preseason rankings because I don't think they're that good. They're the only, uh, Division 1 school in Texas that's undefeated at the moment, but I don't know that that's going to stay that way. And they're not that good.
This, this is, this is the thing is like they are honest in the sense that like Texas Tech is undefeated.
But like, what are they ranked?
Right. Any— if they were in the SEC.
Like, and that's, that's the problem, right?
Because they're in the Big 12 and they're unranked, like not unranked because they're in the Big 12 and they're undefeated. They don't get ranked as high. Sure. As Ohio.
Or, you know, what, what, pick your, pick your poison.
Like, you know, any SEC team because what, Georgia's undefeated. And Georgia's the new number one.
Right? And like, to be fair, rightfully so.
Well, and there are other teams in front of them that are not undefeated and are in front of them.
And so that's fair, but I still think—
I don't know that it's fair. It's just exposing the bias.
it's— And like everyone knows it, but no one in the media is willing to admit it. No one, no one, no one, no one in the broad media. Now, people within the— in the small, in the small media is willing to be like, hey, like Texas Tech's undefeated. Like, why aren't they like number 3?
Sure. But I will say the thing that's gonna benefit everything is it's pretty much decided they're gonna expand to a 24-team playoff.
They're already talking about it.
So it's get— it's gonna happen. And which it should, I think it should happen. I think 12 is way too few. I honestly, I would vouch for 16. That's where I think we should probably be. 24 seems a little bit excessive, but 12 is, 12's a tough number. Uh,
well, it's just, it, it'll be, it'll be harder for anyone to argue that the best team doesn't win when you go to a 24.
I mean, like, it's like, okay, now you can all shut up.
No, no, no. You're exactly right. Like that, that to me is the best fix because at that point, do the rankings matter? Yes, they absolutely matter. However, you, you still gotta play and win.
So you gotta, you gotta, you gotta show up. But the big deal— okay, so let's start off with the one.
Okay. I, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna get this one out of the way because it's so delicious for me.
That's what I wanted to wait on.
Is, is, is the Red River.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
You're an Aggie. You have to hate Texas.
It's, it's not because I hate them. Like, I don't— like, and I don't, I don't hate them.
I actually have many, many good friends that went to Texas University. My dentist went to Texas.
Texas University, see, there it was.
Oh, is it university? Whatever. Like, look, if that offends you, I'm sorry. I was programmed a certain way.
Like, here's the thing, is several weeks ago, We were having a conversation on here about Texas being ranked number 1.
And I said, that's fine because it's gonna be so delicious when Texas goes to the Red River and OU beats them.
And so many of you jack wagons jumped on the comments and said, you're a moron. Oklahoma could never defeat Texas in a million years. And what happened?
I predicted it like 5 weeks ago. You did? That Texas would go down at Red River. Why? Because they're overranked.
people think way too much of them. People think Arch is like God's sin to Texas football.
And he's clearly not. And, and like, they're like, oh, their defense is amazing. And their defense is pretty good, but their offense sucks. Yeah, they can't— like, they went and got the best receiver from the SEC. They stole him from Auburn. Sure. And he couldn't do a damn thing. dang thing.
And like this, and like, and Oklahoma, like, let's look, let's just be honest. Like, that's the one game on A&M schedule I'm looking at going like, they might have a chance.
So, but, but what has happened since the beginning of the season is Oklahoma has gotten progressively worse.
Than people expected them to be.
Yeah. People are like, oh, we need to replace— what is it, Mattier?
Now they're like, oh yeah, we need to bring in the backup.
And I'm like, no, like he's actually pretty good.
Yeah, he could be. But I, I look, I'll tell you what, Oklahoma's defense is stout.
Their defense is stout. But
like, that's— who's the head coach there?
Oh, um, I forget his name. Come on.
He's a defense coach. Like, that's his thing.
Yeah, he— it is. Uh, what is his name? Come on. Britt Venables.
wasn't he like at Virginia before? Yeah.
Yeah. And so, no, you're right. Like, he— there's, there's definitely potential there, but Oklahoma's season so far has been a letdown.
And I don't think they lost anybody.
Who did they— they lost to somebody that was like,
oh goodness, what is their— I mean, they've lost to almost everybody.
Oh, they've been pretty much like A&M and then showed up at Red River.
Yeah, no, well, that's the thing is like, and again, like you have to recognize like it, you've got a situation where it's a rivalry. It's a neutral position, right? Like, um, they've, it's one of those things where it's like, anytime you play in a neutral stadium. It's challenging.
And it's a rivalry on top of that. And so, um, like, okay, so their losses were Michigan.
And Georgia. And but like, they beat Michigan.
Michigan had lost the week before to someone that they should have beat.
And then they went in and beat Oklahoma and everyone's like, oh my gosh. Right. Like, how bad is Oklahoma? Exactly. And then they lost to Georgia, which was kind of expected.
To be expected. But then their wins are New Mexico and UTEP before Texas. And so like, I think that's the thing is they've just underperformed and then they come in and I'll tell you,
I did. I watched almost the entire thing. It was incredible. They just—
Like, when you, when, like, and I'm not saying, I'm not saying that as an OU fan. I hate OU. Sure. They're like the worst fans. Yeah. Like, I can't stand them on any level, but like, that was an amazing drive that they put together. It did in that game.
It was, it was pretty perfect. Now, both of them looked terrible in the first half. The second half is where the game really came alive.
But anyway, no, it was, uh, it was an upset. There's no doubt. Definitely an upset. So
I don't know. Like, here's the thing. I don't even know that it was I don't know that it was an upset.
Oh, it absolutely is an upset in every— like, it was everybody who—
it was an upset in the sense that Texas was ranked number 1 and OU was unranked.
But like, Texas— and maybe we disagree on this— Texas was way overranked. Oh,
I don't, I don't disagree with you on that, but it's still an upset.
was when anytime you have an unranked team that beats a ranked team, it's an upset. It just is. But I hear your point of like—
I just don't think it was, yeah. I don't think it was as significant of an upset as— Yeah, I see that. Because they were ranked number 1, and I don't think they deserve to be number 1. Sure. As I laid out like 5 weeks ago.
So where do you think they should be?
Probably like 15, maybe 18. Ooh.
Yeah. So, but so at that point it definitely is less of an upset.
Somewhere in that range, 15 to 18. Like, I, I, I don't think that they're bad.
I think they're good, but like, I don't think they're number 1 good. And so they were like just way overranked.
And they were just doomed to fall.
But this is again the problem with preseason rankings.
No, I, but like, here's, here's, here's the problem is Georgia's now number 1.
Is there any question in your mind that they're gonna fall?
Uh, no, I think at some point they'll get beat.
I don't think so. I don't, I don't see anyone on their horizon and I'm like, I'm not concerned. They already beat Alabama.
Yeah. I, I think that there's, I, but they do it every year. Every year there's one team that comes in and beats 'em. Mm-hmm. I don't know who it's gonna be. I, and maybe I'm wrong, but I think at some point they will, but I still think they're number one. Like, I don't think that Notre Dame is number 2, and I definitely don't think Notre Dame should be number 1. So I, again, I think that we're kind of where we need to be in week 6, going into week 6. Here we are. Mm-hmm. I, I, I think we're kind of where we need to be, uh, or going into week 7. We are at week 6. But anyway, so that's kind of where, where things are. I, you know, but then the other one
Okay, so here's, here's their remaining schedule.
They have Kentucky, Auburn.
Oh, so they don't even play Kentucky.
So who's your biggest concern in there?
Um, Of those, yeah, not many.
That's, that's what I'm saying.
If you— I think if you're being honest, is Ole Miss.
Ole Miss, maybe. And yeah, just because, you know,
that's who, that's who they got left.
Chambliss is good. I think, uh, yeah,
they don't play some of these teams.
Let's see, is it— yeah, so it's at Ole Miss. So that's in Ole Miss's favor.
It's a tough place to play.
Like the other ones that might be a concern, Missouri, they're playing Missouri at home.
They're playing South Carolina at home, which honestly, like South Carolina, like they're kind of a—
They could a little bit, they're proximity.
Well, they're, yeah, they're an upsetter. I mean, that's kind of what their role is.
But like, I'm not worried about Auburn.
I'm not worried about Florida.
I mean, maybe I'm concerned about Ole Miss, but I gotta see what they do for the next 2 weeks.
To see if they're actually a concern. I'm not worried about Missouri 'cause they're playing Missouri in Atlanta.
They go to South Carolina and then they play Georgia Tech at home.
Like, I don't see, like, I don't see something that like raises my blood pressure. Sure. If I'm Georgia.
And I'm not saying that they should like sleep on them, any of them.
But like, I, I also know that Kirby Smart's gonna have them ready to go. I, I, I, I see, I see Georgia kind of having a perfect season at this point.
Well, they might. They definitely might.
Um, I mean, Alabama to me was like the big one.
Yeah. Only because, honestly, in my opinion, only because Georgia has never beaten Alabama in the regular season.
Not in the past. I say never. Not in the past. Like, yeah, Alabama has had their number.
when— I'll ask a question. Like, when is the last time, uh, Georgia has beaten Alabama?
I feel like that was a thing last year. Like, because they played them twice.
Well, yeah, but, but we're talking regular season.
Um, and I think you're right. I think, I think Alabama beat them, but then they beat them for like the SEC Championship or something.
Yeah, so, uh, Georgia defeated Alabama in 2007
in the regular season. Mhm. Okay,
before this year. So it's been 20 years almost. When I say never, that In, in the recent history is what I mean by that. Like, I know it's happened, but like in the, in the era that Georgia and Alabama were the big dogs, they've only beaten them— this, this was the first time since 2007.
But they— but last year they beat them in the SEC Championship, right?
Well, yeah, but that's, that's not regular season. That's my point.
so— but yes, they have beaten them, but I think only twice. in the playoffs. So I mean, like, that's Georgia. This might be the year that Georgia stays where they're at.
I could be wrong. I could be wrong. Look, I'm, I'm humble enough to admit that, like, sometimes I could be wrong. But like, all you a-holes out there that excoriated me about Texas and Oklahoma can just go home to the woodshed and take your whooping. Yeah, because I was right.
You were right. Uh, the other one that was sweet was LSU losing. Oh, it
dude. By a lot. The 2-point conversion was one, it was just a thing of beauty.
Especially because there was like a penalty. Mm-hmm. It pushed him back and he still just like stepped back in the pocket. Yep. And then just ran it in.
And not just be like, look, it was, it was doubly gorgeous because it happened to LSU.
Like, I loved every moment of that. It was so awesome.
Um, one, I, I also, I, I root for the underdog every single time.
And I, I love when Kentucky could just whoop on somebody.
Especially when it's Lane Kiffin.
Yeah, exactly. He's easy to—
it's like, who'd you get beat by? You get, you got beat by Ole Miss and Kentucky.
It's like poetic justice.
Yeah. I don't disagree though. Good stuff, man.
So that one, it was just, it was just a good game too.
yeah, they played a good game.
So, and there were other good games. I mean, like, I actually want to go back to the Georgia-Alabama one because there's a lot of Alabama fans that are upset that there wasn't a pass interference call. Did you, did you watch that?
So there was, there was a play towards the end of the game.
That would have potentially put Alabama within in field goal range had there been a pass interference call.
So, and I was, I was, I was, I was hoping you saw it because, like, I don't, I don't actually know the rules. I look at it and I'm like, yeah, I
have to go back and look at it because I, I remember having an opinion on that. Um, and I remember thinking that—
so, okay, so I gotta remember what it was. Here's what I saw is you had 2 defensive backs covering the receiver. One blindside runs into the receiver, basically preventing him from catching the ball.
Um, and he wasn't making necessarily making a play on the ball, but he didn't necessarily know what was going on.
And so in that situation, if I'm describing it accurately, is that pass interference? Because he doesn't know that the ball's coming, or—
Oh, no, no, no. It's, it's his responsibility to know.
The, the defensive backs?
But like, if it, if an officiant didn't see it,
Does it get called in the replay?
Yeah. So, um, actually, I, I, yeah. So that's why I was like, I was looking at it again cuz I, I remembered it, but I was like, okay. Which way did I, did I really go on it? So, um, it was absolutely pass interference.
Absolutely. They just didn't call it. They didn't call it. Now here's the thing. I will tell you that every conference tells their officials how they should call certain things.
All right. Now, now that doesn't mean that the rules are up for interpretation, But there's a philosophy behind things. Let me give you a perfect example. Some conferences, uh, want a whistle blown when an extra point is kicked and it goes through the uprights.
Some conferences do not want a whistle blown. The, the— because the whistle always ends the play, but a play ends even without a whistle. Sure. So it's just a, it's just a philosophy of how that happens, right? Um, there are a lot of conferences that will say big plays that are like game-deciding plays, you need to be lenient on. Like, let it play out. Don't, don't throw something.
Don't try to interfere. I will also say that, um, we, we refer to something a lot called bang bang place where it's like that happens. You don't call bang bang place because it is so close that is it technically? Yeah. But like, it's like so close. Like you just don't call that. Here's the thing. In this specific play, the defender runs and the receiver is trying to catch the ball. The, the defender is running at him and makes contact before the ball gets there. Mm-hmm. And he never turns his head around. So what I mean by that is the all— like, both, both players have the right to the ball. Defender and offensive and defensive
guys have a right to the ball. But that defender isn't playing the ball at all. He's not playing the ball. He's playing—
Not even looking. He has no clue where that ball is. He's not even like— if he would've turned his head, It, it probably would have been in his favor to go, oh, I hit him early,
Uh, I wasn't looking at the, the guy, I was looking for the ball. Both of us were playing the ball. He wasn't playing the ball, he was playing the receiver. He hits him early before the ball gets there. It's 100% pass interference in my opinion. Um, and so it was a no-call. Now the SEC may come back and go, we don't want that called in that scenario. But the problem is in the world of replay, in the world of slow-mo 4K, like everything is so easy to see.
Um, and so yeah, it was, it was a controversial no-call, but it should have been it should have been called.
Yeah. It would've changed the outcome of the game.
It would have changed the outcome of the game because they would've had a first down.
It would've been a first down and it would've had—
Well, not just a first down, it would've put them in field goal range.
It would've put 'em in field goal range.
Which would've allowed them to tie.
Correct. And I mean, they were almost in field goal range as it was. Yeah. And yeah.
Look, I'm not crying any tears for Alabama.
and here's the other thing, like, I, I'll say this, like, this is another thing that we talk about a lot whenever, uh, we're talking about football games is like, look, you're asking for one play at the end of the game that could have determined the outcome of the game. What about the other 59 minutes of the game?
If you would've dominated the rest of them, then this wouldn't have even been an issue.
That's right. And so like, now I'm not saying that you shouldn't officiate it the right way. You should.
But it's still the— it's like, look, you're, you're asking for 59 minutes and 58 seconds worth of a game to be determined on that 0.2 seconds.
Yeah. You're, you're hanging your hat on one instance when it's like, if your team would've actually played well, right, this wouldn't have been an issue. They could have been up by 14.
if they'd actually would've like performed.
That's right. And, and now the other thing that we've got is, uh, so I'm in a, uh, high, uh, Texas high school officials Facebook, uh, group. And there was a play, uh, that was a questionable call on whether or not it should be a blindside block or a block in the back. Mm-hmm. Or what would, it was just the question was that, what would you call here? So many people were putting on there that it should have been a block in the back. It was not. It was a legal blindside block and it's textbook illegal blindside block. But I'm telling you, 2/3 of the comments on the, on the thing, which from people that you assume are Texas high school officials, said it should be a block in the back. And I like,
uh, block in the back's gonna be a 10, a 10-yard penalty. And, uh, and this was on a punt. Okay. So, uh, it's 10-yard penalty versus a 15-yard penalty.
And an automatic first down.
And well, but both of 'em are gonna be a first down cuz it's on punt. Well, so it's a change of possession.
So like, what if it was, what if it was like 4th and 20? 10-yard penalty is not gonna, not gonna put you a first down, right?
That's what, that's what I'm asking.
Correct. Because like one's a personal foul, one's not. Cuz one personal foul carries an automatic first down.
That's, that's what I'm asking.
And blocking back doesn't.
I don't know the circumstances of the play, but like, I know some, some are automatic and some are not.
Yeah. So, you know, if you've got the, and, and the problem to me is the, the blindside block was put in place for this very reason. So,
which I, I actually saw that called in a game and I don't recall which one. And I remember watching it going, well, that's just the dumb part of the person because it was an— it was a change of possession.
Sure, happens most of the time on change of possession,
right? And so it was a blindside block and I'm like, yeah, but like, that's not the fault of the guy providing the block.
you know what I mean? Like, like, what are you gonna do? Like, you're there.
Are you not going to block the guy? You're just gonna let him go?
Yeah, so I think that's the— that's the problem. And but it's the reason they put the play in, or the—
I understand why they have it, because it can cause a lot of injuries. It can. I've seen it happen. But like, like, you, you want to like allow that guy to just continue on and not provide coverage for the guy running the ball that's just now taken possession?
And I'm like, this seems silly.
Well, it, it— so here's the thing. The reason they put it in, in play is because before, what is an illegal blindside block Um, most of the time that is happening at the shoulder. Most of the time it's a block that happens at the shoulder that the defender or whoever is being blocked didn't see coming. Mm-hmm. So a block in the back is typically 2 hands in your numbers and you fall forward. Mm-hmm. Okay. If the block is at the shoulder, typically you're not falling face forward, you're falling on your side.
And that is a legal block. Even if it's the back of the shoulder, it's still a, it's still a legal block. So you've got these defenders that were coming in and, and we called, I don't remember what we called 'em, but it's basically a sniffer. A guy who's sniffing out a guy to just go punish.
Yeah, I was, I was gonna say that was, that was what I see the, the intent of the rule. It is most of the time like change of possession. Oh, now I can go smack the crap outta the quarterback.
That's exactly right. Or, or whomever, it, it doesn't matter who it is, but typically it's someone not paying attention to who's coming at me. I'm looking at the ball runner or whatever. And until the blindside block came into play, it was just a legal block. Mm-hmm. And, and there was a lot of injuries happening because of it. And so they put the foul in. And so I'm like, and in this specific play, which I can show you later, this guy comes and you can tell he's sniffing this guy out. He goes and he punishes him by putting a block on his shoulder.
And so many officials were saying that should be a block in the back. And I'm like, if we can't get that right, Then, then what are we doing? Yeah. You know, and, and you're calling games on Friday night. Yeah. Big important games. And so I, officiating's tough. I, I'll just tell you for those, all of you out there who are— No, it absolutely is. Armchair quarterbacks, uh, who are, who are saying, oh, you know, if I was a coach, I would do it differently. Being a coach is tough. And hey, calling a play that you see in real time, it's tough. So just putting that out there.
Yeah. Like the, the, here's, here's the issue I have with it is I think if it affects the play that's happening, it shouldn't be a foul.
But like if it's away from the ball,
Like then it should be a call. Sure. Like if you're using it as an opportunity to like smack the crap out of a quarterback or like a wide receiver or something who's not looking, that's not even near where the action's happening. Mm-hmm. That makes total sense to me.
But like, if it's actually someone who's prepared to make a play on the ball that has just been turned over, it's fair game, man. Yeah, I think that's my opinion.
No, I think all of it had, and I think that's why you gotta look at the play as a whole. Like you need to be able to see, was that player coming out of nowhere targeting him to punish him?
Which I think that's probably the, is it targeting?
'Cause like, if it's like, no, he's gonna tackle the guy that just intercepted it. That's not targeting.
No, it's why, it's why a play at the shoulder is not illegal. It's whenever that player goes to punish, that's whenever it becomes illegal. So anyway, um, yeah, so that's kind of where we're at.
So anyway, fun weekend in college football. Yeah. I love it when stuff gets upset. Oh yeah. I love it when positions get turned over. Oh yeah. It's, it's the absolute best. Um, so Do you want to briefly comment on the Cornell stuff?
Sure. Let's talk about it.
Yeah. So I found about a— I found out about it on vacation. My wife was actually telling me about it. Like, I don't, I don't know that we need a whole lot of commentary about it other than just like, I think that they're both kind of scummy.
Oh, who, who are you talking about?
The, the, the boys in the fraternity.
And that the girl should never have been around them in the first place.
So, and, and like, I, I have zero problem. I have heard so many people comment about this situation where they're talking about the Cornell. And is there like a phrase that's associated with this now?
I, I don't know what it is. I think there was like 50-some-odd guys on that group text.
We used to call it an orgy. Or a gangbang. What do we do? Like, what do we— What's this we business? We,
never peopled anything. Of course not. No. So I've heard.
I was never associated with any such event. Um, you know, no, in all seriousness, I was like, like I heard about this and I was like, what trash? What smoldering trash of garbage is this?
Yeah, it's terrible. Awful.
And everyone's like, oh, the guys need to be blamed. Yeah, they need to be blamed. Of course they're morons.
For engaging in anything that's associated— I think there was actually only 7 guys that were actually involved in this situation.
That were especially— that were being called out. Yes.
But there was like 50-some-odd guys on the text message thread.
Yes. And they were alerted to the opportunity, I should say.
Yes. Um, and like, by the, by the way, this, this has become culturally not abnormal. For like, there, there are so many of these, of these gals who are on, uh, OnlyFans who are like, I'm gonna sleep with 1,000 guys this year. And it's like, why?
Like, what are you— what are we actually trying to accomplish? Like, it's, it's clearly just like an attention grab.
Yep, money grab. It's, it's, it's despicable.
It's nothing you're gonna be proud of sharing with your grandchildren. No. 40 years from now. No. So like, why do it? Um, but like the 50-some-odd guys, the, the, the criticism is like, why didn't any of them say anything?
And to which I don't have a defense of, which they should absolutely have said something like, you morons, stop doing this, this is stupid, or kick me out of this text, I don't want to have anything to do with this. It could also be the case that like none of them were even paying attention.
Like I'm in several like WhatsApp groups where I'm like, I come back several months later and I'm like, what the hell happened here?
Like— Yeah, the carnage is— I didn't even ask to be in this group.
Like picking up the pieces 3 months later going like, what happened? Yeah. And so like, that's a possibility. I don't even know how this happened. I don't know. But like, if they were aware,
then they absolutely should have said something. Sure. You know, um, the problem is, is like, now we have all the text messages. We know that she was like texting several of the— not several, a couple of the guys the day after saying what a good time she had. And then 3 weeks later she's saying rape. Is that within her prerogative? 100%.
You know, and, and for those like 7 guys that were involved in that situation, don't do dumb things,
Because this is what happens.
what did you expect was gonna happen?
Like, that— I guess that's a question that I want to ask people a lot of times, is like, okay, something you did was found out and people didn't like it, and so now you're texted
about with 50 other guys,
Like, did you expect that someone is gonna find out and go, well done? Or—
Hopefully not. What— that's what I'm wondering. Like, what was your endgame?
In being part of that? You didn't— did you— I mean, I really— what I want, what I want, what I think should happen is they come out and go, we made— we were wrong. That was really terrible of us. I don't— I wish I never did that. You know what I mean?
The question has become is whether or not they were legally wrong.
Oh, I know. That's the problem.
That's the problem. It's like we have created this culture of sexuality that says that it's not until someone says no. And they can even say no retroactively days and weeks after and be like, no, this was wrong.
Well, because we've created a culture in our life of you do what you want to do. Moral compass is yours to dictate. Yeah.
until you decide it's not.
Right. Until someone or you or whomever decides it's not. And all of a sudden, you do you is thrown out the window.
And this is, this is where everyone comes back to like, hey, maybe we need to reevaluate the Judeo-Christian ethic and be like, you know what, maybe if from the outset we said that this was wrong, this wouldn't have happened in the first place.
it's a better probability though.
Like, look, look, sexual promiscuity and, and complete lack of moral fiber has been happening for eons. It doesn't mean that it wouldn't have happened, but we have said as a culture for a long time now Like, hey, you get to decide what's right for you.
And it's like, no, no, no, no, no. We need something outside of us to tell us what's right and what's wrong because we are terrible at deciding what's right and what's wrong. We actually need something outside of us to go like, hey, you should really reevaluate your decision-making because you make terrible decisions.
You make terrible decisions. Yes. And by the way, you probably shouldn't be doing ketamine.
And then making moral decisions about what your bodily autonomy looks like.
And then, and then, and then choosing later to regret those choices.
Look, and I'm, I'm, I'm not, I'm not saying that anyone that did anything wrong is sort of like not responsible for the things that they did because other people were on drugs.
That is not what I'm saying whatsoever. Right. Had we had the moral fiber to say, I probably shouldn't be doing drugs, and then making moral decisions about what to do with my body, that those decisions should have been made long before that situation came about.
You know, and, and so like, if they did anything wrong, like, I'm, I'm like, look, when it, when it comes to like This is the thing is we can't even say that word on YouTube and Facebook. When it comes to grape, like when it comes to that, I am probably one of the most ardent supporters of castration execution. Okay. And like, I'm not even saying like peaceful surgical castration. Like, no, just make it as painful as possible.
So that the next guy that comes along that decides he wants to do something like that has a second thought about doing it because if he gets caught, it's gonna be painful.
And if not that, then just like straight up execution. I have zero patience for that kind of deplorable behavior.
Like, really. And if any of those guys did it, I hope that's what happens to them. I really do.
Like, because you have to be in a dark place in order to do that to a woman.
So if they did that, like, string them up, man. I don't care. I have zero patience for it.
But should it be a public execution?
That's a whole different thing. Like, we're now live streaming these things. Have you seen this?
Oh, we haven't even talked about this. You haven't seen the guy, uh, the, the, the Pentagon shooter?
Well, I know that they cleared him for, uh, um, what do you have multiple guys with rifles? Firing squad.
They cleared him for firing squad.
It's going to be livestreamed.
It's— I really do. It's definitely, it's definitely a point of just FYI, there are a lot of people who have opinions about this.
I could care less about your opinion. Like, here's, here's the thing is back in the day, there's a reason that they did these things in the public square.
Right? If you go, like, if you just go watch the opening scenes of True Grit, like, and I'm talking about the old one. I don't know about the new one. I haven't, I don't remember. I haven't watched the new one. If you go watch the old opening scene, she goes to that town in Arkansas, and her companion tries to cover her eyes because the town square, they're about to have a public hanging for guys that had committed horrible atrocities in their community.
And the community showed up to watch them hang, not because they wanted to see it. It was, it was a spectacle. I get it.
It was, but it was, it was more to show—
Like you're talking about. the deterrent of like, maybe I shouldn't do this.
Yeah, because if I do and I get caught, I'm gonna end up like that guy.
And that's the thing is like, I have like, that guy shot up a US military base. I could care less if we livestream his execution.
So I'm not gonna comment. I'm gonna be bipartisan on this. But The, the argument is that when we livestream this in the world that we live in today, of social media, of kids that are 8 years old having cell phones, that we're, we're going to be seeing something pretty graphic for kids.
Oh, well, I have a response to that. Don't give your kids cell phones.
I don't disagree with you. But my kids
don't— like, like, my oldest didn't get one until she was 17.
Yeah. And mine, mine won't either.
I stand firm behind that decision.
Specifically because of things like that. Because when she turns 17, she has zero problem coming to me and saying, what is this?
Yeah. And no, I, I agree with you. You and I are on the same page on—
You and I are on the same page. Like, most of Americans give them to them when they're like 10. Well,
and that's the point. is going, look, okay, if you think that your daughter who didn't get a cell phone till 17 won't see this because her other friend who is 12 shows her, then you're blind, is what the people will say, is like, look, they're gonna see it. And do you want your kids seeing
that? But like, this is... I don't mean to equivocate, but I'm gonna.
Like, if your 14-year-old son in the parking lot of the school sees another kid get punched in the mouth because he talked about another kid's mom, your 14-year-old son is probably now— and, like, and then the kid that mouthed off about the other kid's mom just gets the ever-living snot beat out of him. Your son is now less likely, and in a good way, less likely to mouth off about anybody else's mom.
And like, I'm not— that's a good thing.
Oh yeah, there's something to be said about that. I can, I can, I can get behind your reasoning.
Like, it's, it's good for them to see that a moron who decided to talk about somebody else's mom in an unkind way.
Just got his nose wrapped around a flagpole.
Go, oh, he talked about that dude's mom.
That dude just wrapped his nose around a flagpole.
That's probably not a good idea.
Probably not your better choice.
And like, nobody should be talking about anybody's mama,
Like, everybody just knows that that's a no-go zone.
If you decide to do it and you get your nose wrapped around the flagpole, them's the breaks.
And so for other kids to see that, like, oh, these are the actual consequences of me running my mouth.
Maybe you're less likely to run your mouth.
And like, I'm not encouraging violence. I don't want that. I want kids to be polite. Yes, ma'am. No, ma'am. Yes, sir. No, sir.
All those kinds of things. But like, for them to be able to see— and, and so in, in our country, I think if it's explained like, hey, that guy shot a bunch of people.
And here's what happens when you do that. Yeah. You, you decide that your particular views are more important than the lives of other people, so that you decide to open fire and kill them and take dads away from their kids. and take moms away from their kids and, and dads away from their wives and moms away from their husbands, this is what happens to you.
I don't have a problem with that. Like, kids, kids used to go to executions in town squares.
And it dissuaded them from behaving in ways that the public decided was not appropriate.
Now, is the public right? That's a whole different question.
Whether or not our kids see these things, like, look, you give your kid a cell phone and you're worried about them actually seeing a public execution. There are way worse things that they can find on YouTube.
That I will disagree with you.
On Instagram, on— look, there just are. Yeah. Like, you are deluding yourself into believing that your kid is just watching SpongeBob SquarePants.
You're watching— your kids are watching SpongeBob SquarePants do horrible things.
So either take the cell phone away or stop crying to me about what your kids see on there because of what hap— what happens in real life. That, that's my argument.
Like, if you don't want 'em to see it, take it away.
Yeah. And so to, to circle back, uh-huh. Uh, 'cause I think I do, I do wanna reel you in just a little bit. Um, is, uh, is the Cornell thing. Uh-huh. Going back to that,
that's a whole different ball game though.
We're— yeah, we're, we're, we're in a different league, and I understand that. My point was, you are personally going, hey, uh, if you do that to a woman, other people should be deterred.
By seeing or being aware of or knowing that this is how— what's going to happen.
yeah. And I, and I— look, I They're—
Let me tell you my thought on that, because here's what I think should happen. Let's, if this has been the culture at Cornell for a long time, which a lot of people are espousing to be true.
I don't know that it's true. Could be.
If it's the case, let's make the Cornell degree completely worthless. That's the thing. How worse off would America be if Cornell didn't exist?
Not that, not that worse off.
There's not, there's not that many people who can say that they graduated from Cornell to make that a thing.
Yeah, the, the most prestigious person I can think of is probably like Andy from The Office.
At this point. Sure. And so like, who cares?
Like if the Cornell name gets ruined, there are 500 other universities in the United States ready and willing to take their place to instill within young American men and women good moral values.
So if Cornell goes away, eh.
So if that's the case, and this is the culture that Cornell is producing, let's make their degree completely worthless. And so like anybody that graduated from there, let's make it a shameful thing for them to say, I graduated from Cornell.
Yeah, I'm okay with that.
If, if, if that's the case.
Right. And I would bet, like most things in the world, it has been exacerbated that that is everyone that comes through that place. You know what I mean?
I seriously doubt that that's the case. Right. And I seriously doubt that many people would be willing to make that argument.
No, I wouldn't be either. And I think that's one of the reasons that I really dislike these absolute comments of everybody.
Or, you know, like, you know what I mean? Like, these absolutes are—
they're dangerous. If you're unwilling to do what I suggest, then you don't really believe what you're saying.
Right. And I think that's one of the things that is just interesting about the whole thing is how Cornell has—
Look, Cornell's response was a joke.
It was a joke. Yeah, that's been one of the problems.
Make them write an essay.
Yeah, that's— it's one of the problems is like your, your response to this, Cornell, was lackluster at best. Yes. You know? And so, yeah, there, there probably needs to be some stricter consequences being given. And oh, by the way, this shouldn't have had to resurface after 2 years.
That's, that's the big point.
It's been 2 years and it's resurfacing.
And— Meaning that it had not surfaced well to begin with.
Yes. Yeah, they've been, they've been burying it for a while.
So yeah, I, I, you know, I, like I said, either, either bury Cornell or move on with your lives,
Like, because if you're not willing to bury the entire institution, then you don't really have a problem with the institution,
And the institution is not a problem, and the individuals are the problem. That maybe, maybe that fraternity is the problem.
I don't even know what the name of the fraternity— do you know the name? I don't either, no. That's— see, that's the problem.
Is we haven't even identified who these boys were associated with. They won't—
they haven't put it out. Other than— Well, they— maybe they put it out, but I haven't seen it.
Cornell. Yes, they're saying Cornell people in a fraternity.
I, I don't think there's only one there.
No. No. And like, what university doesn't have a fraternity full of jagweeds?
Sure. And, and everybody knows which one it
is. Yeah. At that university. Yes, they do. Every single time they're like, oh yeah, those guys are the biggest ones.
And like, I would guess if, if I had to put money on the line, if you went to Cornell, you can probably tell me exactly which fraternity it was.
So that, and that, and, and then, and then there's that problem. Like, why, why are we having to wait for something like this to happen for everyone to go like, oh yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about.
That's right. So what happened or has happened is every fraternity has been told you cannot have any parties for the rest of the season, the rest of the year.
That's not gonna solve nothing.
No. I mean, you, you saying, oh, we can't have a sanction party.
No. Here's the problem is All of you who went to that university in the past were cowards and said nothing until now. That's the problem.
Is, as you saw despicable moral behavior going on before now, and all of you probably— and like, I'm making assumptions here, which are probably accurate, probably, that all of you for years knew that that was the one that was the problem and said nothing.
And you're all probably subscribed to OnlyFans, and so you're part of the problem as well. You are.
Check your subscriptions.
You are. Like, yeah, let's, all of you who are judging, let's check your bank ledger.
Because it's probably full of moral problems. Yeah. And so like, don't, don't come crying to me about sexual impropriety.
For years. It's, I just, it just bugs the ever-loving bejesus out of me. So,
well, we talked about that longer than we thought.
Okay. So like, let's transition. We got, we got this fun thing. We've got the, the Grill Fighter.
So, and I think we did a review. What was the one, um, the
Yeah, the fire one that was built by firefighters. Yeah, it's like the sponge. Yeah, that works on steam, right? I think he saw that and was like, hey, I've got something kind of cool I need you to check out. So the Grill Fighter, we're going to be checking this thing out. We just got it in the mail. Yeah, so I just wanted to confirm that we got it. Um, it's chainmail with, uh, what, what did you say this was?
It's like, it's just like a silicone.
Yeah, it's like silicone underneath.
Yeah, it's like almost like, you know, like the things that they make like, uh, like, like beds out of and stuff. Yeah, silicone, like sponge almost, but it's not, it's not porous. It's a non-porous material. There's holes in it, but it's not like a sponge.
So, and then it's got this scraper at the top. It also has like a bottle opener and like a little hook. It's, it's cool. It's hefty. Like you can tell it's durable. Um, but we'll check it out. The idea behind it, I think, because we were talking a lot about how these wire brushes, yeah, would flake off and that could potentially get like metal in your food.
Things like that. And so like this, the idea behind this is this chainmail. So it's a little bit more sturdy. So if something were to break off, you'd know because the whole thing would come apart. Um, so it's supposed to give you the same scraping power without breaking apart.
Yeah. Yeah. So I'm, I'm excited to check it out. It's cool looking.
Um, but we also wanted to get into my, uh, most recent trip.
Yeah. I wanna hear, I wanna hear, cuz, uh, and I know we, we, we don't have tons of time. We want to talk about it, but it won't take, like, I, I'm super interested in Epic.
Sorry, my daughter's texting me in the middle of the show here.
Do we even? Busy, busy people, and we do not have time for that kind of stuff.
But here's the deal. So you went to Florida. Mmhmm. Uh, you did lots of stuff while you were there, but you went to Epic Universe, and, uh, that's part of Universal. Brand-new park. It's been open for, what, like a year and a half now? And I think it opened in, like, May of last year.
So, uh, and it's... It's supposed to be awesome.
Um, so like, let me, let me, let me just say this. We, we went and did Epic for one day,
And then we left and we went and did Disney for 2 days.
So now we are big Disney people.
But we also love Universal. Sure. Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure. We've had a blast at both of those. I hate to say this. Mm-hmm. I think Epic is way overrated.
Oh, that is a, that is a hot take.
because here's the deal. Anybody can go check out people talking about Epic. You can see videos on all the stuff there. We don't have to necessarily go through all of the thing, the reasons, but I am really curious. That is a hot take.
Yeah. So here, A couple things. One, it's a lot smaller than I think a lot of people think that it is.
Okay. And they've, they've talked about already planning on expanding and— Which is great. We will also say that plenty of Disney parks have been built and expanded because you have to start somewhere.
And I, I think, I think as far as like a new park, they're off to a great start.
Let me, let me, let me say that right. But I also think it's way overrated.
Um, it's, it's way smaller than I think people give it credit for.
Um, so we stayed on property at the beach.
Um, and that was a strategic move because we knew that we got in an hour earlier, right, than people with just regular tickets. And the way that Universal does early park entry is way different than Disney does stuff. Right. So they actually let you into the park about a half hour before they're supposed to on the hour mark. So we were actually at the front of that line.
Um, and suffice to say, we were able to do half the park before the park actually opened. Wow. As far as rides are concerned.
Um, it's, it's not when you look at the actual number of rides.
Let's see, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Yeah, 8 in total.
Now, like, and, and there's some bifurcation in there because there's like the one, it, it depends on what you call a ride.
When you start talking about things that act— people actually want to go on. Sure. It's about 8.
Um, and I, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll explain what I mean in a minute. Because, um, the best ride in the park is actually not in a— in my opinion, the best ride in the park is not through one of the portals. It's actually in Celestial Park.
Um, which is awesome, amazing, like it's so cool to walk through, um, but does very little for the park.
Um, if you're not familiar with the way that works, like there's these portals that you go through and they're supposed to be like these self-contained worlds that you enter into.
Yes. And on several of them, it felt like they had an amazing idea and then ran out of
On a bunch of them, honestly.
And so like, if you, like, let me ask you this. If you had to guess as to what's the most impressive ride, because I think you're pretty familiar with what they have there. What would you say you would think is the most impressive ride at Epic Universe?
Probably the Donkey Kong ride.
That one or the Harry Potter one.
Those are the two I would guess.
Yeah, and I think that'd be fair guesses. Okay. Um, the Donkey Kong ride, um, is good.
Um, it's, it's impressive. It's on theme. Probably the most complete ride there.
As far as theme and being complete.
It's got an effect that's kind of cool.
Yeah, it— I mean, Super Nintendo World is very small.
In, in feel. Yeah. And they had to build it up really tall so that it felt like you were in that world the whole time you were there. Makes sense. If you're a Super Nintendo fan, you're going to be right at home. It's going to have all the I mean, like, you can punch the blocks. It's gonna give you that, the sound. Have I done that? I know that. Yeah. And so like, there's the 2 rides there, the Donkey Kong ride, which is the better ride of the 2.
Not that impressive, honestly. Okay, sure. It's a good ride.
But like, to me, it felt very kid.
Okay, well, what do we, if you could compare it to a ride at Disney, are we Big Thunder Mountain? Are we—
No, because it wasn't that fast.
like, if I had to— like, if I had to compare it to something, it would feel like Mickey's Runaway Railway.
And it felt like Donkey Kong. Like, if you love Donkey Kong and you love like that whole vibe of the temple and everything, like, it, it was cool. Like, it was like From beginning to end, you're in the ride, you're in the world, it's happening.
But it's not like a thrill ride.
No, not at all. None of the rides in Super Nintendo World were— like, they had some cool stuff going on, like the Mario Kart ride.
That was interesting. Mm-hmm. That was— the interesting thing there is like they give you like a Mario hat.
But like when you get in the kart, you grab the 3D goggles and that magnetically snaps onto the hat.
Which was kind of cool because like— That's a cool effect. They're not having to like, clean and sure, all that kind of stuff. Uh, but it just was like, meh.
Like, sure, it was, it was really difficult to pick up like the gameplay.
Um, it wasn't that exciting.
But like, again, like if you're really into Super Nintendo, could be your thing.
Um, same with Donkey Kong.
But like the whole world in general, probably like the most complete thematically.
Sure. Um, now the Harry Potter, what I have been told was that the queue is better than the ride.
The ride was super disappointing.
Um, it, and, and this was true of a couple different rides that we had while we were there. It really felt like they repurposed a lot of technology that they had from the other 2 parks.
And like, if you've been to the other ones, you'd be like, oh, this feels just like
This, that, and the other. But like, they were— the Harry Potter ride, they were trying, and like, the Harry Potter world in general was just discombobulated.
Yeah, I, my— what I've been told is it's incomplete.
Okay, so here's, here's, here's, here's kind of the problem is you, when you go through the portal, you're going back to like 1940s Paris.
So if you've seen the, um, uh,
not the movie, well, yes, the movies, but like the, the more recent ones.
Um, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, it's supposed to be in that time period.
Right when like Dumbledore is like young.
And Newt Scamander, and they even have like a circus that you can go to. The circus show is actually pretty good.
Um, And it's like mysterious beasts and this guy's trying to like capture all the mysterious beasts. And it's a good little theater show, but it's not like an experience or anything. Sure. It was fun.
But everything is the ride. But like the portal that you go through is like 1920s, 1930s Paris.
And then all of a sudden you go into this ride and it's Harry Potter in the Ministry of Magic in the '90s or the 2000s. And it's like, what's going on here?
Um, but then it's supposed to be— it's a 3D, like— but like, also, it, it really felt like they were trying to do Rise of the Resistance with some of the animatronics.
And then some of the, the 3D screen stuff.
And it just wasn't that good.
The animatronics were bad. Uh, really, really bad.
Um, And so like, and that's, that's the ride at that park that you're going to be waiting 90 minutes.
To get into. Yeah. It's the longest wait at the park.
And to get into it and it be like that.
So that, that one had a, that one had a bad vibe. The, the, the city and everything that they had, like the, the restaurants and the shops and everything that they had going on felt very much like Diagon Alley that they had at the other park. It was, it was really well done.
Um, but the ride itself was just a really big letdown.
Um, so, but for us, we were done with the entire theme park by like 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
Like everything that we wanted to ride. And then we went back and rode other things like 3 and 4 times.
That we really wanted to.
So the, the best area is Berk.
Yeah, that's what, that's the one that I was going to say. A lot of people say that Island of Berk is really, really great.
Yeah, it like, like it opens up and it's amazing. It looks incredible. The ride there is a, is a great coaster. Right. They have another one that's like, um, it's almost like a Dumbo ride, but you're actually like flapping dragon wings and you can actually affect how it turns you.
And then they have a water ride and it's pretty fun too. Um, but the whole, and then you can go meet Toothless and sometimes his kids and all the, I don't remember all the names of the other characters. I don't either. You can meet a bunch of them if you really, really don't want to. So like, that one's the more complete one. Everything is on theme. They have a really great dining hall. Um, the, the only— my only beef with that area is it's so big and, and so well done that you feel like there ought to be more to do there.
Like, they're like— they have like this huge lake in the middle of it and it like just does nothing.
It's just there. You gotta walk around it. And you gotta, yeah, you gotta walk around it. There's nothing to like engage with. Sure. Like, and so like it's, it's cool and it looks amazing.
But there's just nothing to do and it feels like there should be more to do there.
Um, the other one is the Dark World.
Um, which has 2 pretty decent rides. One is the werewolf coaster, right? Which is a spinning, like you're the, the cart that you sit in can actually spin 360 degrees.
Um, it's not a really long ride, but it's fun.
Um, and it kind of like shoots you back and forth, and as you go back and forth, you can kind of spin around, but it is a coaster.
Um, and it's pretty fun. My wife said that was actually her favorite ride there, even though she has zero interest in like monsters. Okay. Yeah, yeah. The other one is, uh, Frankenstein's like great-granddaughter, right? And it's she's trying to take control of all the monsters and Dracula turns on her and starts taking control of all the monsters and turning them on her. And that's, that's your coaster experience. It's, um, it's like a 3D kind of a thing.
Um, again, kind of similar to like Rise of the Resistance where you're like moving through scenes.
But like, again, it felt like about 3 quarters of the way they ran out of money. and stopped being able to like do some of the animation and choreography with the animatronics.
Like, I'll just give you an example. About 3/4 of the way through the ride, one of the main characters that you've been engaging with in the ride is Igor.
And you come across him in a busted out lab and like he's talking to you, you can hear him in the, cart that you're in, but, and you see him in front of you, but he's not moving.
like he's just sort of there. That's weird. Like before he was moving, he was on a screen, he was doing all this.
And now that he's talking to you, nothing happens.
Nothing happens. And you're like, it's like happening right in front of you. You're like, what, what's going on here? Yeah. So like theme, theme-wise, like walking through the castle, getting onto that ride again, I think Universal does this a lot better than Disney.
The lines are just incredible.
But like, if the ride doesn't deliver, it just feels kind of meh.
All that being said, all that being said, between our Epic Universe trip and then we ended up going to all 4 parks at Disney in 2 days. Um, my, uh, 2 of my kids will tell you and include, and then including me. So 3 of us and probably my wife too. is the Stardust Coasters, which is essentially like the Dueling Dragons roller coaster in Celestial Park of Epic Universe. The best ride we went on out of all the parks.
That we went to while we were there.
One of the best roller coasters, if not the best roller coaster. And there's 2 roller coasters on that ride.
And I would say this of both of them, the best one I've ever been on in my life.
Yeah. And there's no theming. There's, there's nothing to it other than it's just a roller coaster.
The best, like, just ride experience as far as it being smooth.
Like, it's, it is an incredible roller coaster.
Like, I would, I would hands down just go to the park just to ride those 2 roller coasters.
That one, that makes it worth going to the park.
Everything else, sort of meh.
Now, now let me say this. The whole portal system that they have set up and you going through that and then emerging into the world.
It just needs to deliver on the ride experience in there. And the only one that does that really is Burke.
And maybe Super Nintendo.
Maybe like, but like the Super Nintendo just felt kind of kiddish.
But like Burke, Burke delivered.
Harry Potter World did not.
Dark World did not. I will say this though, actually getting to be in the park and see how they integrated the resort.
Into that whole experience. Yeah. Wow.
It's really good. I've heard that too.
But like, we were like, we, we stayed. Here's the other thing I think a lot of people need to hear is the resort that we stayed at, which was the beach one, right? Which was a value resort. Incredible, man. Yeah, like way better than any Disney value resort.
Oh yeah, I've heard that.
Price-wise and actually amenity-wise.
like the— so this is the one that's famous for the pool. When you go underwater, you can hear music.
but Disney has one of those.
Uh, the only knock I would say on that is the deepest the pool gets anywhere in that which is a massive pool, is like 4 feet.
So, meh. But like still a cool pool. But for a family of 5, my wife and I had our own bedroom.
And then, which was a king bed, and then my kids had 2 queen beds in the other room with a kitchenette and a bathroom.
And great. We paid less than we would have paid at any value resort at Disney.
And it allowed us to get in an hour early.
So the early entry at Disney has been really diminished because you have to be in a deluxe.
Which, I mean, if you want to transition to that, we stayed at Beach Club.
Yeah. Oh man. I've just, it's one that I'm like, oh, I want to do it someday.
We, and we stayed on the end that was closest to Epcot and the Boardwalk and everything.
So like it, from our room,
like closest to Beaches and Cream.
Like we were, there was like a little, like our balcony looked over the pool.
Which was just to the left of Beaches and Cream.
So, and, and we, and then so we ended up planning our day that way. So we did Epcot both days because it was a 5-minute walk.
To the International Gateway.
Um, and right there at the International Gateway is the Skyline.
So we could go to Hollywood if we wanted to. Um, but we were also within 5 minutes of the buses out of the front gate. And so like that could take us wherever we wanted as well. But like my wife was so enamored with the idea that like we could just walk into the back door of Epcot. That was her favorite thing. And she was like, well, she was like, I'm never staying anywhere else again. And I'm like, why? She goes, I want to walk into Epcot. I want to feel like I own the place. And I was like, well, this is the place to do it.
Yeah. And like, and I think people need to realize if you stay at the Boardwalk, you can do the same thing.
Exactly. Or the Yacht Club. Those 3.
Well, Yacht Club is— It's a little bit further. It's further down. Yeah. You can do the same thing, but it is further down. It's a
little bit further, but it's
still— Same thing with Boardwalk. It's a little bit further. Sure. But if you're at Beach Club, like, that's the closest you can get to the back door of Epcot.
And like, we were right there.
So we— and we had not planned on going to Animal Kingdom.
And here's why. So we bought the Lightning Lane passes for Epcot because we didn't want to spend a long time waiting for Guardians.
Yep. Which once, which you can use at multiple parks.
After you check into the first one.
After you check into the first one.
So we made sure to get the earliest one that we could. We didn't even care if it was a crap ride. Yeah. We just, we just the earliest one that we could. Yep. Checked into that one. And then we started booking stuff at Hollywood.
Because the, the day that we had planned our very first day, we got extra magic hours at Hollywood.
For 2 hours till 11 o'clock at night. Now I got sick as a dog.
And, and so I ended up leaving at like 8 o'clock.
And my family just stayed and shut the whole place down. And I was like, look, if I'm gonna go with you tomorrow, I need to go home. Oh yeah. And get some sleep. And so I did. But my family got to experience all of that, um, and, and shut Hollywood down. They ended up riding the Muppets ride like 3 times.
They rode Tower of Terror twice. Yeah, I mean, everything they wanted to do, right, they did. I did everything I wanted to do with them.
And then you went to bed.
And then went to bed. The only, the only thing I didn't get to do was Slinky.
Um, which is— I've ridden it before. That was the only reason I was okay with going home. Sure. Because I was feeling so bad.
So the next day we got up and we did Animal King— not Animal Kingdom. We get— we got up and we did Magic Kingdom.
And we knocked out the whole thing by 1 o'clock in the afternoon.
Now, we had the extra magic hour in the morning that we didn't use, but like, we also knew it wasn't going to be heavy because it was a Not So Scary Halloween Party day, right? And so we knew that the park was going to be light, and if it was— if anybody was going to be there, it was little kids.
So we got to ride everything we wanted to ride.
I don't think we waited more than like 10 minutes,
Except for Tron. which I think we waited 20 minutes for.
Which, I mean, like right now on a regular day at Tron, you're waiting 50 minutes.
So, and I'm glad it only took 20 minutes. It's a great ride, but it lasts like a minute.
But I'm glad I didn't wait longer than that.
And so we knocked that one out and we were like, well, shoot, like we know that we've got extra time at Epcot tonight. Like, do you guys just want to go knock out the 2 or 3 things we want to go do at Animal Kingdom?
Yep. So which is about all there is to do there.
And so we did. And like, we, we waited maybe 10 minutes.
Like maybe 10 minutes for
Yeah. Like it was just, it was just a down day.
And, and so like my, like we, we rode Flight of Passage.
What day of the week was it?
Um, that would have been a Wednesday.
Yeah, that makes Makes sense.
Um, so like maybe 10 minutes for Flight of Passage, maybe. And then like no wait for Na'vi River. And we're like, hey, let's go do Everest. I— there was no wait. There was 5 minutes.
We— and like we even circled back around and did it twice.
And my, my 2 younger ones were like, hey, we want to do the Kali River Rapids.
And my oldest was like, well, I really want to do the safari. Safari.
And so people train and said people were out. Yeah, like we also knew like if it just rained and it stopped raining, there were going to be animals out. And I was like, let's go do it. Yeah, so me and my oldest went and did, and we saw everything.
Um, and so my kids rode the Kali River twice, and then we were out of there and we were back at Epcot by like 5 o'clock.
Wow. Before you say anymore, did you see that there was a rhino fight?
there was a rhino fight, um, a few days ago.
And, and, and there are people on the safari like filming it. Pretty crazy. Anyway, go ahead.
So, so yeah, we, um, we, we knocked it out. I mean, like we, we did way more than I thought we were gonna be able to do.
And like we basically just ended the day be— and this is part of why we love going to Disney this time of year cuz it's Food and Wine Festival.
So like we literally just ate our way around the world at the end of the day.
Whatever we wanted. And like, and the park was open till 9 and we were like checked out by 8.
We're like, y'all just want to go?
we're like, yeah, let's go to the beach. Cause like that was, that was the thing is like, we'd had to pack up everything that morning, stick it in the car.
Cause we knew that like once we were done, we just had to leave and go to our Airbnb at the beach.
And everyone was like, well, yeah, let's go to the beach early,
And so like, we, we, dude, we sucked the marrow out of the bone on that one. You
did good. That's impressive.
We got everything out of that one.
And like my, and here was the best part is my kids didn't know it was happening.
Oh yeah. I remember this.
So like we, we drove, which we typically don't do.
Um, we usually fly in, but we drove. And so the first day we showed up to Epic, we're like, hey, surprise, we're gonna do Epic before we go to the beach. Yeah. Which was not a lie.
Because we had reservations at the beach club.
After that. Yeah. But like, we also knew that we were going to the New Smyrna Beach, right? After that. So we didn't lie.
We just told them like, hey, before we go to the beach,
We're doing Epic. Yeah, which we were excited about. One day thing, which again, not a lie.
So we did the Epic thing. We finished Epic, we go to bed that night and we're like, all right, let's get up in the morning. We'll get outta here. And we couldn't check into the resort until 3 o'clock.
But we could check in early.
So we told the kids like, hey, we'll sleep in. We got up at like 9:30. We were outta there by 10:30.
And so, but it was only like a 20-minute drive. Sure, it's close. the Beach Club.
And so we, we, you know, you start driving through the thing that says Walt Disney World.
They're like, what are we doing?
What's going on? Yeah. We're like, surprise again. So they flipped out.
But that was, man, I, I would encourage anybody to sort of schedule their, their trip that way is to find a day at the front end or the back end to have a day at a resort.
Oh yeah. The resort days are great.
Especially if you're staying at one like Beach Club, Yacht Club or something.
The pool there is amazing. It's
It's the only resort on Disney property that has a lazy river.
They have a massive slide. For now. Going for the—
Oh, will it? Mm-hmm. So massive slides.
I said Riverside. That's not what it's called. Anyway, I just lost. The new one is gonna have it. I
don't even know what the new one is.
I do. Daggummit, it's not called Riverside. 'Cause that's Port Orleans. It's, I'll think of it in a minute.
Okay. But anyway, big, big massive slide from the pirate ship on the lake.
So it's got a sandy bottom.
Yeah, there's sand in the pool.
Well, it's not, it's, so we learned it's technically not sand.
It's granite. Right. That's been like ground up.
Lakeshore Lodge, okay. And they even have like a beach in the middle of one of the pools that you can go like build sandcastles.
And then like there's the ice cream shop right there by the pool.
Like it's such a great resort, man. Yeah, it is. Which is why my wife was like, And you can, um, there's a bridge, uh, just beyond the resort where you can stand. And if you like, if you don't have tickets to the park, you can stand there and watch the fireworks at Epcot.
And, you know, or you can walk down to the boardwalk, which we did that first night. And we got like a slice of pizza, we got a couple drinks. There's street performers.
Um, oh, okay. So this is something, uh, um, the new Uh, bar on Boardwalk.
My wife was like, what's wrong with you? I was like, the door's open.
And they're like— and she's like, but it's not open. I said, I know. And like, it opened the next day.
So I got to walk in And see it. See it pre—
Oh yeah, it looks awesome.
Okay. Did anybody like, hey, what you doing? No, you just—
Well, they had, they had been having a private event there.
That evening. Okay. And they had all cleared out.
And it, so there was a sign on the door that said private event. And I was like, I know what that means. The door's open.
And, and I could, I could see through the windows and there was nobody there. And I was like, I'm gonna go in and check this thing
Yeah, very cool. It was great.
Very cool, man. That's awesome. Well, uh, the one thing I'll tell you is that I just got back from the woods. We went to Huntsville State Park, which we do once or twice a year. And, um, it was great, man. Like the weather was nice. It was less humid. Oh, today was awful. Humidity was through the roof, but
should have been this coming weekend.
Yeah, exactly. It's going to be way better even then. But, um, we had a weird thing happen. The, uh, so we've— in our camper, we have 2 air conditioners. And, uh, unlike a lot of, uh, bumper pull type campers, if you have 2 on, uh, 2 air conditioners, they're typically not, uh, vented together.
So the, the ducting is typically not all together. Um, but ours is, which is really nice if
Yeah. So our, the, the, we have one in the front bedroom and one in the main cabin. The main cabin one would work on fan, but the compressor would never kick on. And so it was, it was not super hot, but it was warm enough that it was, it was struggling to keep up a little bit, but it was, it was okay. It was not uncomfortable, but it was not as cold as I would have normally had it probably. Um, and so I did what I do. I got ChatGPT out and I was like, what could be the problem? And interestingly enough, like I've, I could have found a YouTube video on this, which I did later, but basically it was like, get your multimeter out and let's start checking some things. Mm-hmm. So it had me
testing things in the, on the, uh, thermostat. And it, and it basically said, I can't be conclusive on this, But based on what I'm seeing, this is probably a bad thermostat.
And I was like, that's a, that's a thing? Like, hmm. Because I'm sitting here going, great, I'm gonna get an air conditioner guy or RV guy that specializes in air conditioning come out here. I'm gonna have to do this whole thing. Like, yeah, but it wouldn't have been then. It would have been after we got back, right? Um, and I got online, and of course you can get one of these thermostats. It's, it's very basic. Um, it was $30 and I could get it the next day. And I was like, huh, I'm 45 minutes from my house. I can go pick it up. Pick it up. Even better, one of my friends lived half of that distance. I had it delivered to their house
and, uh, they brought it to me because they were coming up the next day. So it worked out really well. Sure enough, put the new thermostat in, worked immediately.
Yes. I was like, Praise Jesus. I'm so happy right now. Like, it, it was awesome. I mean, I was— look, this new world we live in of AI being able to help me diagnose stuff that honestly, like, I just, I am not well versed in this stuff. Mm-hmm. I don't know how to fix refrigerators. I don't know how to diagnose AC issues. Right. Like plumbing is like even challenging for me. Like, I don't know any of this stuff. I didn't grow up learning that stuff. stuff. And so now being able to— for it to literally go, hey, put the black probe on the yellow wire and the red probe on the white wire, and— or whatever, like,
right? I, I'm like, okay, it says 0.8, what does that mean? It was like, well, it means this. And so, dude, it was— I, I was like, $30, I fixed this. And I— it was awesome.
This, this is something I think is worth— I think that's a new world that you live in.
I don't think it's a new world that most people are living in.
Okay, what do you mean? Like most people are not doing that?
No, no, no, no. I, I, I think most people are asking it like, who are the Kardashians dating?
You know what I mean? Yeah.
Where should I go eat shrimp?
Yes. I think they're using it for simple things like that, which it's not bad for.
But like they don't realize what it's actually capable of doing when it comes to like home maintenance.
Yeah, no, it's great because like first of all, I was able to just say, hey, here's a picture. And it was like, oh, I see, I see 6 wires. Here's the colors and here's what they mean. I've pulled up the manual for this and here's what it says. And it's like, great.
I mean, like, it can see individual things in a picture. And like, man, it was just, it was so simple. I mean, and, and changing out wire for wire, that's easy. Like anybody can do that. That's easy work. And so, but it was diagnosing the issue upfront that even if I couldn't fix it, I could have told a technician, here's, here's what I know.
And you can verify any of it if you want to, but here's what I know. And it's quicker to the fix. You can tell 'em, hey, I'm pretty sure it's this. So they have the part on them whenever they show up, right? Like that, there's so many opportunities you have to just diagnose something and then you can make an informed decision. Am I willing and capable to make this repair? Or do I need to call someone? Or is this a throwaway item and it's just worth buying a new one? Or can I, you know, get it repaired and this is a good way to do it? So, um,
I, so I, I made the, I made the classic blunder recently on trying to fix my smoker, which I'm still not done with, by the way. It has to do— I've got to go get some bolts to put the, um, the frame on the bottom again so I can test it out. Um, I just haven't had a chance to go get those parts yet. But when I was taking it apart, I made the classic blunder of unplugging stuff without taking a picture.
Thinking that it would just match up again when I went to go put it back together. I think we've all kind of done that.
Um, and I got back to where I was ready to plug it back in and I was like, holy crap, these colors don't match up.
With where it's supposed to go. So I took a picture of it and I fed it into AI and I'm like, I don't know where these—
Where these plugs go. And they were just like little jumper plugs.
But like the wires didn't match the colors on, on the board. And I was like, holy crap, I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. And it goes, oh yeah, I've seen this 1,000 times. This one goes here, this one goes here, this one goes here, this one. And it just kinda walked me through it and I was like, holy crap, this is amazing.
It's so amazing. Like, like it is, it is so awesome that it, it just knows things you don't. Like, and, and I, I, I know it probably sounds weird to people that are like, I don't trust AI or whatever. Like, but the reality of it, it, it, here's what it does. it has access to information you don't.
And could you go find it? Possibly. But it can help you reason through things that are like, it's just a, YouTube can't do. It can't help you reason through things.
It can show you a video, and if you find a video that has your exact problem, which you can find a lot of these days, then you're good. But if you, like, even on a YouTube video, if they're going through and they're like, oh, we're doing this, this, and this. Like, I actually found a lot of people that were like, hey, here's your exact thermostat. Mm-hmm. I'm gonna upgrade it to this other thermostat. And I'm like, I don't wanna do that. I wanna put the same thermostat in. So what about that? And, and so it's like, look, it'll show you how to disconnect it. but it doesn't necessarily show you how to reconnect it because it's doing something completely different than what you want it to do. So even then
you're like, okay, well that's kind of my issue, but not 100% my issue. But when you can take a picture and go, this is what I'm looking at. And it goes, oh, perfect.
It's just, it's great. I was actually diagnosing a toilet issue in my camper today. It was like, I've got a little leak somewhere. And it was like, oh, show me this, show me this. And I showed it. It's like, oh, it's probably this, this, this. $11 is a fix. So it'll be here tomorrow. I was just like, okay, it's pretty cool.
Yeah. And then like for $11, yeah, I'm willing to like roll the dice.
Right. I mean, what's the worst that could happen?
