508 segmentsThis is episode number 91 of The Homeowner's Show. Whether you're DIY or looking to hire, we're here to help you find the best information and options for you and your home. My name is Kevin Hackett, and here with me is Craig Williams.
Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to The Homeowner's Show. We're glad that you could join us in this post-Memorial Day Tuesday.
That is right, it is post-Memorial Day.
Yep, and, and you, you had an interesting way of celebrating This, this most sacred of holidays?
Well, of course, I sent my kids to their grandma's house. I took them there and left them.
That's right. Go, go learn something from grandma.
Well, I mean, here's the deal. They called her the other day and said, hey, we're out of school, which is kind of a funny thing, but we're, we're done with school. I'll put it that way.
What's the translation? Mom and dad are done with us.
That's exactly right. And they said, we want to come to your house. And she said, okay. OK. And I said, oh, thank goodness. So they're at Grandma's house.
I had the exact opposite problem yesterday. In our neighborhood, we have a lake. In the middle of the lake is an island. There's a swim island you can go to. It's all buoyed and safe. My kids love going out there. So we took the kayak, loaded up all 3 kids, and we went to the swim island. They've been begging me to go swimming at the lake. They love it. So we got out there and as we're like halfway to the island, it starts sprinkling.
Oh yeah, it did rain quite a bit yesterday.
And I was like, ah, this doesn't look too bad. Let's just keep going. Like maybe this will just blow through. 2 hours later, we're still on the island 'cause it has a little pavilion you can sit up underneath.
Okay.
Still storming, has gotten way worse. Lots of lightning.
Yeah.
At this point, my wife has parked at the park across the lake waving at us going, are you okay? Are you okay? And I'm like, we're fine.
Can't do anything.
So eventually we had a clear enough spot in the lightning that I, I felt good enough to like paddle them ashore.
Okay.
And get them home. Needless to say, they haven't asked to go to the lake again today.
No, they're, they're going, hey, let's just stay home because this is horrible.
Dad won't try and kill us as much here.
Yeah, I guess so.
So we had an adventure though.
Well, yeah, sounds like it.
And they all each wanted to tell their mother the story separately.
Oh yeah, and, and she's like, I just heard that very same story.
Well, luckily for her, it had 3 different versions.
Oh.
So, all completely different.
Sure.
And I was the villain in each of them.
Yeah, Dad wouldn't let us go back into the water and he wouldn't let us go home either.
Yeah, I don't have a mustache, but in their story, I was twirling it.
That's awesome.
So, but we had fun.
Well, yeah, I mean, you gotta make the best of it, right?
Absolutely.
Yeah, and I mean, there was a lot of lightning.
Yeah, it was, and like close too.
Yeah.
So they got a little scared. We actually had the kayak. It's one of those inflatable kayaks by, I mean, we're not sponsored, they're not sponsoring the show or anything, but Intec. Intec makes a lot of cool inflatable stuff if you guys don't know. A friend of mine actually has one of their inflatable hot tubs. Says he loves it. Way cheaper than a regular hot tub.
Sure, and you can both take it with you and take it down.
Take it down, you don't have to have it up all the time.
Right.
So, but anyway, so we have one, it's a 2-seater Intec. Inflatable kayak, so it's not heavy at all. Right. So we pulled it up into the pavilion, and they all kind of took a nap in there while we waited for the. They got to swim for like all of ten minutes yesterday. So it was that works out of two hours. That was pretty disappointing.
Yeah, it's all good.
But you know, yeah, c'est la vie.
C'est la vie.
So cool. Anything going on in your world other than ditching your kids?
Oh, I got a few things going on this week that I'm excited about. I've got a bench that I was supposed to have made my wife. wife like 2 years ago. Um, long story short, it's not built yet. And so, um, there's a few reasons. I just didn't— I don't have a couple of the tools I absolutely need, and I'm borrowing some tools from another person. And I just haven't had, A, the time, right? And B, um, we really couldn't go do anything the last couple of months, even though I did have some time. So now that the kids are gone, I went actually this last weekend and got some stuff done. Now I've just got of put it all together and should be,
should be fairly easy from here. So I'm excited about doing that.
So without the kids here, you literally have no more excuses.
That's the problem.
The wife is looking at you going like, look, Kev.
Yep.
We've, we've cleared the area of all distractions.
Yep.
Where's my bench?
That, that's exactly what she's gonna say. So it's on me at this point to finish it out, which I'm excited about. It's, it's gonna be really great whenever it's done. But anyway, so yeah, that's about it, man.
Cool. Well, we have a fun episode filled with fighting and negotiating and discussion.
Well, the last time we did this, it turned into a big deal. Right.
I mean, we're still friends.
Well, yeah, we are, because we can understand that disagreement doesn't lead to severed friendships.
Right. Yet.
Well, the thing is, the thing is, I won. the argument.
Is that official?
It is.
Did we have an impartial judge declare that? Or are you just declaring it for yourself?
There were a lot of judges. I declared it for myself, actually. But either way, what we're talking about, if you don't know, is a few episodes ago, we did an episode on the top 3 things that you— well, we specifically said appliances in your kitchen.
Right.
And Craig said as his number 1, the kitchen sink.
Yep.
And the faucet. He wanted to kind of put those together. But, um, there was a big argument that ensued that the sink isn't an appliance. He disagreed. Wikipedia disagrees, but it's not a credible source, right? And people on the internet revolted, and the, the—
Kevin got name-called.
Well, yeah, I did, by one, one of my friends, oddly enough. Um, but either way, all I know is that the majority of people would agree with me that it is not an appliance.
Sure. It was the most unique name-calling. I've never heard of an appliance bigot.
Yeah. Um, I'm kind of happy with it.
Badge of honor.
Yeah, I'll take it. But today we're gonna move that forward. And we're moving away from appliances specifically. And we have asked the question to ourselves, who are obviously the experts. The experts, yeah. And the room that we're moving to today is the living room.
The living room. I like the living room.
Well, yeah, I mean, it is an essential room in the house.
Are we including dens?
Well, I would, okay. So in my home growing up, we had a living room and a den.
Right.
And the den, Um, is the less formal of the two for our— for the house that we, um, that we lived in.
Okay.
And so when you walked into our house, there was the living room, and then you kind of walked into another room, and it was an open room with the kitchen and the den kind of in the same room.
Okay.
And so, um, so yeah, that's what we had. Um, but I don't know which one's more formal.
I, I don't know. That's why I'm just asking you. My main question was, are we including dens?
Okay. I, I think that a den and a living room are simply a difference of formal and informal.
Okay.
And so I would say yes, let's include them together. And because I feel like the same types of things are going to be in both places. Possibly more in one than the other, but they're the similar types of furniture, I would think.
Okay. So are we, are we just going with furniture or are we going with—
Oh no, because one of mine is not furniture. So, so one of mine is definitely not furniture.
Are we including appliances?
Well, by, by virtue of definition, I would—
'Cause if so, I need to reevaluate my list because wet bar is one of them and there's a sink in there. You appliance bigot.
No, yeah, thank you. Um, I would, I would say that I— that things that could go in either one of those. Let's go with that.
Things that could go in either one of those. Okay.
Are you, are you good with that?
I think I'm good with that.
Okay, so I think I went first last time.
You think you went first last time?
So I think it's your turn to go first.
Okay, so this is my number 3. We're gonna work up to number 1.
That is correct.
OK. My No. 3 is going to be a hi-fi.
A who?
A hi-fi. Like, a really good quality hi-fi.
OK.
Do you know what I mean by that?
I do, yes. I don't know that the majority of our audience will.
Hi-fi is usually a good combination of stereo and record player.
Right.
I love having music in my den/living room. I think a lot of people use their living room as their— and this would definitely apply— as like their media room. And that's not typically how we use ours. We don't watch a whole lot of TV.
Sure.
I mean, it's not to say we don't have TV. We enjoy watching movies and all that kind of stuff. We just don't tend to spend a lot of time doing those kinds of things. But man, I love having a good hi-fi system where I can listen to some good music. But the best kind of music I like to listen to is on vinyl.
Yeah. So this reminds me of a Friends episode. Did you watch Friends?
It's been a long time.
Okay, um, so, so there's an episode of Friends where Joey is dating a girl and, um, she, she talks about, um, her furniture and some different things and, and he says, well, where is your TV? And she says, I don't have a TV. And just completely Deadpan, has no clue what to do with that. His next question is, well, what is all your furniture pointed at? So, you know, you know, if you don't have a TV in your, in your den or living room, or don't feel like it's necessary, then I mean, it is still kind of a media room in some sort. So I can see the, uh, the need to have some sort of entertainment value to that room.
Yeah, yeah, no, it's, it's critical. And then like, you know, and part of that, and it may be cheating, but like I think part of that is having really good quality speakers attached to that hi-fi system. Sometimes they're an all-in-one system and that's fine too. Um, they actually make these, um, uh, just as a sidebar, these really cool, uh, Qi charging tables that are, uh, it's a, it's a round table and the middle of it is nothing but surround speakers. And so you could, if you have a Qi charging phone, you can just set your phone on the table, but then the table itself is Bluetooth.
Oh.
And so you can stream music through that as well as it having aux and USB connections on the back end of it. And I always thought that would be like a really cool, smaller living room hi-fi feature that you could attach like a phonograph to or record player, whatever you wanna call it. And have that be part of, That, like, especially if, like, you're in a small apartment or something. Sure. That seems like a really cool feature.
Yeah, it'd be a really nice appliance for your living room.
Uh, well, yeah, it's wireless, Kevin.
Oh, okay.
It doesn't fit your definition.
Okay. And, and my definition is clearly the most important definition. Okay, cool. Um, I, I like that. I think it's good. Um, My number 3 is a dimmer switch.
Ooh.
Yeah, I need a dimmer switch.
Okay.
Because, um, for the most part, when I— the, the amount of time that I spend my, you know, going back to the very first episode that we did on the show, you said, you know, how do you wind down at the end of a long day, right?
Right.
Final 4, we did that. If you want to know what our final 4 is, go back to the first episode and listen.
Or don't. It was terrible.
It really was. Just maybe we should redo our Final Four too. But, um, I, I like to put our kids to bed and then my wife and I retreat to the living room and we turn on a show. We, we just watch something, right? And so I don't like having bright lights whenever I'm watching TV. And so the only way you achieve Because you're kind of a Mogwai. Well, I don't know what that is.
Seriously?
I'm dead serious.
You've never seen Gremlins?
Oh, yeah.
Come on!
Golly, that's been a long— it's been way too long since I've seen Gremlins, obviously.
That's like one of the rules, man. No bright lights.
Yeah. Yeah, so I don't like watching TV. I must be, because I don't like watching TV with bright lights on. I would prefer it to be just a little more you know, intimate setting, I guess. Yeah. And so I need the lights to not be full brightness. I need them dimmed.
Okay.
So I definitely need a dimmer switch in the living room.
So just— do you want like a standard dimmer switch or do you want like one of the smart dimmer switches? Do you want— does it matter?
I just need to be able to— I'm not too picky. I just need to make sure that I can dim the lights down and I'm fine with just traditional, you know, lever that, you know, move it up and down.
Yeah. So like, are these all overhead lights then? Are you— no lamps or anything like that?
Yeah, yeah, so okay, so yes, all— we do have a lamp in, in our, in our living room, and it would suffice. However, uh, my wife really likes— she prefers more light than less light whenever she's watching TV. I think it's her eyes. She just doesn't like to watch in complete darkness. And for her, the lamp doesn't— we have a pretty big living room.
Yeah.
And she doesn't feel like it puts out quite enough light, so Um, I mean, I guess if you have multiple lamps in there, you want to turn multiple— it would, it would serve the same purpose. Um, if, if we went that way, we could, we could do it without a dimmer switch, but I need to be able to move the lighting down to a lesser volume, so to speak.
Yeah.
And so for me, the best way to achieve that, the easiest way to achieve that is through a dimmer switch.
Okay. So yeah, that's because that's, that's one of the fun features I like about some of the smart light bulbs is that you can actually dim lamps. Yeah.
So for sure. Yeah.
Anyway, so are we on to number 2?
Number 2.
All right. Number 2 is for me, durable bookshelves and like big, massive bookshelves. You've been in my house, you know, like this is, this is pretty key to our decor. Yeah. We're big book people and particularly old books. We like really, really old books. Yeah. Like I think, I think it was this year. I think it was. I think that— I think this year for my wife's birthday, I got like a first edition of Gone with the Wind.
Oh.
You know, and so like, we're not, we're not big-time collectors or anything like that, but, uh, you know, we, we just, we like the look of old books, we like the feel of old books, we just like having those around. We, we have a lot of reference books that we use all the time, um, and like there's pretty much bookshelves in every room of our house.
Yeah.
Um, and so we, we invested in some pretty nice, um, They're— I say portable, you can move them to different rooms of the house, but they're really tall. They're like, I think they're like 7.5 feet tall bookshelves that you can fold up and move to a different part of the house really easily. And we did that because we knew that we were not going to be— the previous house we were in, we knew we weren't going to be there long, but we still wanted really nice bookshelves. And so, and they need to be heavy duty because we like older, heavier you know, not the paperback book necessarily, but like the hardbacks.
Yeah, so definitely.
Okay, that's a big one for, for us and for me.
Yeah, I mean, I can see the, the value of, of that for sure, especially if TV isn't that big for you. Again, that's another form of media. Yeah, that you can put into a room to, to give it some entertainment value. Right.
Well, and, and going back to my other one, I mean, like, we also use those bookshelves to like store our albums, like our vinyl, and, and because they're about the same height.
Sure.
Um, and we, we have a lot of those as well. So, um, yeah, just— and, and they're just, they're good places to put, you know, pictures and other knickknacks that we've picked up over the years. So yeah, and we, we just enjoy having that kind of stuff in our living room. Yeah.
So, okay, well, my number 2 is a TV. All right.
Yep.
Um, I, you know, we We don't watch that much TV either. In fact, we— the most my TV is turned on is in the evenings once my kids are in bed and we're sitting around relaxing. My kids watch very little TV. They watch about 30 to 40 minutes of TV a day, if that. If they get TV for the day, they each get a show, and a show is typically 20 minutes long.
Mm-hmm. Roughly. Right.
And so we just don't have the TV on that much, uh, but a lot of times we'll, we'll turn it on, we'll turn our, our music on as well, and we'll have it on Pandora or something like that, and it'll show the album. Yeah, just so we kind of have an idea of the name of what's going up and, you know, the album. So we use it for that purpose. But I also watch a lot of sports, and so, um, I— one of the things that— and this will come out in a future episode— I'm not a fan of having a TV in, in the bedroom. And I think we've talked about this here. Yeah, you're not either.
No.
And so we really only have, uh, 2 TVs in our home, and one of them is in a playroom or a game room. And so for me, I need a place to watch sports. I need a place to, you know, wind down at the end of a day watching a show, something like that, something that's kind of mindless and gets me, you know, relaxed.
Yeah.
In order to do that, I need a TV. So my number 2 is a TV. Now I'll say this, I've had the same TV since 2007.
Okay.
So I don't really care if it's the latest, greatest, you know, biggest, whatever. It's a 42-inch Philips LCD TV, works great. It fits really well in my house. And so I don't really care about what it is. I just need a video source. Yeah. So awesome.
Well, yeah, like the, the one that we have here in the studio. I mean, like, I think that one's now 14 years old.
Yeah, works great. Right.
So, and it's— they don't even make TVs anymore.
Right. No, they don't. And, you know, if you need a TV or if you want a big TV, like, honestly, I would prefer to have a bigger TV. Um, but, but we don't. I don't really care. Yeah, I just need a video source.
Well, I'll tell you what, man. I mean, like, with the, the way things have changed so much with technology. You don't even necessarily have to have a TV. It may even be more cost-efficient to get a projector these days.
It really does depend on how your room is laid out, what you want to do with it, all of those sorts of things. In some ways, it is. There's a couple of things that people don't like about projectors. One is, they take time to warm up. They don't like that. They like to turn it on and be ready to go. You have to mount it somewhere or put it somewhere. And it just has a different feel than having a TV in a room. It's not as quote unquote pretty, although you can build a box in the ceiling or you can build it out to where it doesn't look bad at all. But yeah, in a lot of ways, the thing that's nice about it is that it's probably not
gonna wear out like a TV does. The technology isn't gonna change nearly as rapidly. And so, There's a lot of value in having a projector for sure.
Oh yeah, and you can just whatever size screen you want in some cases. So that's right, like the one we have on the deck I think is 100 inches for the screen size. Yeah, I never need anything bigger than that.
No, no, so absolutely not.
So are we moving on to number one?
Numero uno.
All right, before we do that, guys, if you have not yet had the need for a great plumber, do we have the plumber For you. Paul the Plumber, guys, he is the man.
Yes, he is.
You guys can reach out to them on Facebook or at paultheplumberllc.com, or you can call them at 832-521-3252 and speak to the lovely Deborah, and she will get you on the schedule.
Yeah, plumbing, man, I do not like messing with— I'll do it, But I don't really like messing with it. No, most of the time— here's the problem— most of the time plumbing winds up being in places that I don't want to be. Yeah, under, underneath a cabinet in tight spaces or around a smelly sewer pipe of some sort. Like, a lot of times it just is around places that I don't want to get into. Yeah, so Paul will get there.
Yeah, and like, there's always just tricks and things that these guys know that just make jobs go quicker and cause you less damage.
Yeah, I think I— when I do plumbing work, which is rare, it seems like I'm always back and forth to the hardware store because I forgot something or I've missed, you know, I've mismeasured something or, you know, the fitting isn't right or something. I hate it, man. I'm always like, I wish I had that or I needed that. And so I'm back and forth to the hardware store and then I wind up buying the wrong thing and it's just a hassle.
Yeah.
Call Paul. Forget about all that mess. Save your time. He's going to do his best to keep your cost as efficient as possible. And those virtual tours, Yeah, are probably the best thing.
It's it's the best thing since sliced bread.
Yeah, for sure. So he he like you get your plumber on the phone.
He says, "Well, let's just let's just FaceTime. Let's let's get on video chat here and let's see what's going on." Yeah, it's easy.
Yeah, it's easy.
How has no one thought of this before?
I don't know. So easy.
You guys call Paul. Great sponsor of the show.
That's right.
All right. So number ones. Am I going first?
You're going first.
All right.
Number one for me: leather couch, leather specific. Yeah, couch.
Like, I want my leather couch. I've had the same leather couch for 10 years.
Yeah.
Um, and if I can, I'll buy another one just like it.
Okay.
I love my leather couch.
Is it a specific brand or just the size and dimensions of it? What do you like specifically about— besides it being leather, which obviously, yeah, is a specific for you, right? What, what else about it do you love?
just how comfortable it is. Like, there are many times, you know, like, and people, people will sort of tease, you know, like, I guess you're sleeping on the couch tonight. And it's like, that's not punishment.
Fine.
Send me to the couch. Yes, I'm good.
That's right.
And like, in fact, I've, I've been having back issues lately, okay, uh, that have been going on pretty persistent for almost a month now. Going to the chiropractor, getting it all worked out. And part of it is I need a new mattress, okay? Um, and, and so we're shopping for a new mattress, but like, if I sleep on the couch, my back doesn't hurt as bad. I just have a super, super comfy couch.
Yeah.
Um, and I, I don't know the name of the brand name. I do know the company is in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Okay.
That makes it. Um, so I'm not far. I just don't know if they make them anymore.
Right.
Um, but it's just been like the most comfortable leather couch I've ever sat on in my life. Yeah. Um, and I don't even particularly like it's not like my favorite look of couch or whatever. It just is one of the most comfortable ones. Like, all my kids prefer to sleep on that couch rather than their beds.
Oh.
I mean, and so like, obviously it's worn out.
Yeah.
And like, but we, you know, we, we do the maintenance on it and, you know, try and keep it as good a shape as possible. Um, but man, just having, having a good comfortable piece of furniture that you love in the living room just to me makes all the difference in the world. It makes it a room that you actually want to be in.
Sure. No, I, I completely agree with you. Um, you know, one of the things that, that I love about that is that that is your way to relax. I mean, that is your, that is your thing. And to me, that's the biggest thing about a living room is it is the, the room of the house for you to relax in. Yeah, there's not a lot of work happening in, in the living room, um, unless it's like a serious conversation or something, right? Like, you know, as far as like physical work, you're typically not doing that in the living room. So having your place to just relax, that is, that is huge. Now, one of the things for me,
um, is I like leather couches. In fact, I think they're super comfortable. Um, I just, I'm probably not going to have very many of them because my bald head doesn't really work well on couches.
It's like it sticks to it.
Yeah, it sticks to it. I mean, even good quality leather, um, It still has the tendency to do that. And so for me, and it's not— for a while, for a long time, it was like, I don't like leather couches because they're cold on my head. But I'm so past that. Like, the—
That is a big downside to leather furniture, is when you sit on it, it's going to be cold if your house is air-conditioned.
Sure it is.
And if it's not cold, then it's warm and sticky.
Yeah, I mean, it— but I mean, but it changes temperature quickly.
Oh yeah.
Right? I mean, it warms up or cools down pretty quickly to your body temperature. But, um, but for me, for a long time, I was very sensitive to that, and I'm so far past that now. Sensitivity to the, to the baldness is not that big of a deal anymore. But yeah, but I love it.
Well, I'll say this, if I couldn't have the— if I couldn't have the couch, a good leather armchair will, will suffice.
OK.
Which I have one of those as well, and it's my favorite armchair. It's— I mean, it's the same company.
Yeah.
We had the couch, and it's just as comfy. I just can't sleep in the chair.
Sure. So Well, so for me, uh, my number 1, and I, I debated, I went back and forth, but—
Microwave?
That one was a narrow miss. It might have been number 4.
All right.
Um, but for me, it was a hard choice between a couch and a recliner, and I went with recliner.
Nice.
And, and here's the reason, because I feel like we're always gonna have a couch in the living room. Um, I, I just feel like it's, it's kind of a staple. You almost have to have it because that's what a living room has in it, right? Um, but for me, I want a good recliner, and to me that is a must-have beyond kind of the staples that are in the room.
Yeah.
And so, you know, it was something that there was a little bit of a point of contention whenever my wife and I were looking at furniture back whenever we bought furniture. I mean, goodness, we've, we've had this furniture for a little over 10 years now. It's just La-Z-Boy furniture. We bought good quality La-Z-Boy furniture, but the contention was I wanted a, uh, like a rocking recliner is what I wanted. Well, she does not like the look of those. She thinks they just— for whatever reason, she just doesn't prefer the look of a rocking recliner.
Sure.
Um, at least the traditional ones, right? Um, Um, so we compromised. And so our, our, my recliner, it looks like a regular armchair. It's got 4 legs on it, all that. It doesn't, doesn't rock, but it reclines. And it— no, you wouldn't know unless you sat in it and pushed back on it, right? Just the way it folds up. But that, that thing, I, I sit in it every day at some point. It is the most comfortable chair in my house as far as I'm concerned.
And do you know what brand it is?
It's La-Z-Boy.
La-Z-Boy. Okay.
Yeah, it's La-Z-Boy as well. One of the things that's great about La-Z-Boy is their mechanisms are insured. They're warrantied for life. If anything ever goes bad with the mechanism, fabric might wear out, there could be some parts that wear out here and there, but the mechanism itself, the metal mechanism, if anything goes wrong with that, it's free replacement.
The frame that allows it to recline? Exactly.
That's the same for a lot of their their things. So if you've got any springs or anything like that in here, in their, their material, if that goes bad, then they're going to replace it. So I, I felt good about that whenever I purchased it. And there are other companies that do that. La-Z-Boy isn't the only one. It's just the one that we found. They're a really well-known brand though. They are.
Yeah, they are.
And they've been around for forever, it seems like. And so, but like, the, the place where this really came in handy is whenever I had my knee surgery a couple years ago. When I, when I had my knee surgery, I couldn't lay down in a bed, just couldn't do it. So I had to be in a recliner of some sort or on a couch or something. And so my recliner, I was literally in that thing 24/7 for about 2 weeks solid. And I slept there, I ate there, everything. And, and it held up, man. My— I felt great. I mean, my back never bothered me, you know, it was never sore, anything like that. So for me, having a really good quality
chair to sit in, uh, specifically recliner. That's my number one.
Yeah. So, so here's the game though, right? Because you said a couch is a given, right?
Well, I mean, in, in most houses it is. In my house it would be. Yeah. And so the thing that I think would get kicked to the first, um, if I had— if, if my wife had to choose between a couch and a recliner, she's going couch. Sure. So for my must-have, It's a recliner.
Here's the way I want to phrase this. We're picking the top 3, right? Let's assume that you only get those 3. Would you then switch to couch, or would you stay with chair?
That's a really good question. The hard part about it is that my wife needs a place to sit, too. Do I get multiple recliners, or is this a one recliner?
I would say it's a one recliner. You wouldn't say 2 couches. I mean—
Well, OK. So in that case, I would definitely have to go with something that multiple people could sit on. OK. And so it would have to be a couch at that point for me.
All right.
So my number 1 is something to sit on. Specifically, I want a recliner. If it has to be a couch, I'll go with that. It has to be.
Yeah, because I think it's kind of fun when you go, OK, if I can get nothing else, what are the 3 things that I get? And that tends to be the way I like when I try and do these things is like, what? if I had nothing else, what 3 things would I absolutely have to have?
Yeah.
Which is a different question, I get.
Well, it is. It is. However, um, I mean, if I were single and just me at the house, a dimmer switch, a TV, and a recliner.
You're good to go.
I'm good to go. But since I don't live with just me, and if I had to pick 3—
And you don't want to continue to live with just you.
Right. Uh, hey, the carpet's really sort of clean tonight. Why don't you sit there?
How does that sound?
I'm probably not going to work out too much. That's if you have carpet in your living room, which I guess some people could say is a must-have in a living room. If they want carpet or tile or hardwood or whatever they want, that could be their No. 1. I don't know. I'm interested to know what people's No.
1 is. I'm interested to hear from folks and see what their answers are, see if our answers were legit.
I don't think we have nearly the controversial ones as we did last time.
Not as much, no.
And I'm sure there are going to be other rooms of the house where we might get some controversy, but—
I could hear some people taking issue with my bookshelf, but just as an aesthetic choice, not as like, does that belong in the living room?
Yeah, it's definitely functional there. I mean, aesthetically, it tends to look good. Books have aesthetic value to them.
They better, because they're everywhere in my house.
That is the most aesthetically pleasing thing of your house.
Right? It's not me.
No, actually, you're— there's something— the way you're— the vibe of your house, bookshelves really fit in.
Yeah, I think so.
For sure.
Yeah.
I don't, I don't know why that is. It just To me, it works. Yeah, for sure.
I agree. So it was intentional.
There you go. I like intentional.
So anything else?
And I can't think of anything else. Like I said, if, if you, if you have a strong opinion— yeah, and, and most of us do— if you have a strong opinion on your favorite things to put in a living room, send it to us. Email us at info@homeownershow.com or Probably the better way to do that is get on Facebook, get on Instagram, and send us something. Uh, we're, you know, we're on both of those. They're gonna— we're gonna link that up in the show notes. And, uh, you can find us on lots of different—
All the platforms.
All the platforms. Yeah, we're out there. Yeah.
So, and we didn't actually celebrate. This is like the first time you and I've been in the studio in like almost 2 months.
Yeah, you know, actually, it's funny, whenever, whenever I was working on the intro for this morning, uh, when I was thinking about it, I thought, I'm gonna go into something like, and here with me in the studio, back for the first time.
Yeah, no, it's a big day. Yeah, we're fixing— we're getting ready to start bringing guests back in the studio. So, because we're not afraid that we're gonna kill each other.
Yeah, and if we do, so be it.
Yeah, I mean, we'll go down with the show. That's fine.
That's right.
Uh, we have a good— do you have a good insurance policy on you?
Yeah, I do.
Okay, good. Yeah.
Um, yeah, me, actually.
My wife and kids will clean up.
Yeah. Hey. You know, my— they're gonna be just fine.
Yeah. So no, we have, we have some guests and they're— I mean, all of them are excited to— I think, you know, I think they've been shut up just as much as we have, so they're excited to get out and about and do some things and get interviewed and get their names up. We have some cool people coming up too.
Yeah.
So I think we had to cancel like 8, somewhere between 8 and 10 interviews because of the whole quarantine thing.
It was crazy.
So, and there's been lots of other crazy stuff going on. We'll get into that in the next episode. Um, but yeah, if you haven't Share, click, love, send us a message. We'd love to hear from you.
