In this episode Craig and Kevin review the Dyson Animal V7 Cordless Vacuum. In the age of cutting the cord, Dyson has given us an option to do just that with a vacuum. Combining the technology and power of Dyson into a small package might leave you skeptical. It may seem like this vacuum might not hold up to the standards you need. Or, maybe it does. We break down all of the components, compare it to a couple of other vacuums, and give you our overall take on whether this vacuum is a good fit for you or not.

Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to Homeowner Show World, the world of the homeowners. Well, like, small.
It's like Pluto.
It's barely a planet.
We're here. Yeah, we are absolutely here. And if you're here too, you are in the world of the homeowner.
Enter the atmosphere of all things homeowner, DIY, hiring that contractor, doing the stuff with the plumbing and then electrical and—
Yep.
All that jazz.
Man, I've— I don't know about you, but I've talked to a lot of people recently. They're like, you mean you do a podcast?
Yeah.
And there I was like, yeah, we got like 100 episodes. And they're like, 100 episodes?
How did I not know this?
I'm like, that is a really good question.
Yeah.
And do you own a home? Yes, I do. Well, you need to be listening to the podcast.
Valuable information.
That's right.
We talk to important people.
We do. And, and people that other people would genuinely enjoy to listen to. Yeah.
They're interesting, interesting cats.
And then there's us.
Yeah. I mean, like, what, where, where would you be without Kevin and Craig?
I don't know. Here we are though.
Yeah. So welcome, welcome to This episode.
That's right. Well, I'll tell you what, man. So do you remember me telling you, uh, not too long ago that I installed new, uh, sprinkler heads?
Yeah, the, the rotary head.
Yep, the rotary head. And if you haven't gone and checked these things out, man, they're, they're really, really cool.
Um, did you mess this up? Did you?
No, I didn't.
You didn't do anything? Okay.
I did not mess this up.
All right. But they let me down.
It got messed up.
All right, so possible redemption.
Here we go. I don't know. Um, so one of the things that's cool is the Rachio sprinkler. You know, remember I, I told you that it, it asks you what kind of head you've got, right, for, for your, uh, nozzle or whatever. And all of my zones, uh, went, uh, the other day, uh, and they were all going for like, like 50 minutes, some somewhere around there.
50 or 15?
50.
5-0.
Okay.
Yeah.
And, and the way that— the way it does it, at least at my house, is it'll, it'll go for like Uh, for like 20 minutes and they'll shut off for 30 minutes and then it'll go for another 25, 30 minutes and let it soak in or whatever. Well, on the rotary head, it was set to go for an hour and 50 minutes.
Okay.
Because it knows that it takes more water. I mean, it just takes longer for it to water because of the type of head it is. But, uh, all that to be said, Um, I was mowing the other day and it was one of those days where I should have mowed like 2 days earlier.
Mm-hmm. You know, it's gotten a little, little thick.
And down here it does not take long for that St. Augustine to get way too difficult to mow. So I'm, I'm out there and I've got the, the little, the thrower on the mower, right? Or just throws it out. And I'm like, I gotta rake this up later. But I was out there and so I was, I was mowing and I come across the rotary heads where I'd installed those. And so I'm like, oh, okay. So I kind of went over one and, uh, the back of my foot caught it just a little bit. I mean, nothing to, to harm it at all. And it moved. And I was like, what? So I stopped the mower, turn around, and the thing is flopping.
Mm-hmm.
I mean, legit flopping. And I'm like, what is, what is going on? So I finished mowing and I'm, I'm mad, right? I'm, I just got through digging this thing up, fixing it. And the day before, my neighbors got their yard mowed and it's like right on the line.
Uh-huh.
And I have no doubt that the guy, I love the guy that mows our next door neighbor's yard. He's awesome. Um, but I'm pretty sure he ran over it with his zero turn and just broke the head. It wasn't the head, it was actually the riser. And so I had to go in there, replace the entire thing, and then—
You had to dig it back up again.
I had to dig it back up, and I thankfully I had an extra riser. But so I had to put the riser in, put it all back together. I mean, I packed it real good, make sure it was like in a position where even if you ran over at this point, it's not going to hurt it.
Mm-hmm.
I went to turn it on to test it. It wouldn't work.
Oh no.
And I'm talking to my brother on the phone, just happened to be talking to him, and he was like, that's probably clogged. I was like, yeah, you're probably right. I come back to it like 30 minutes later to fix it, and I completely forgot that conversation. So I dug the whole thing up again, and sure enough, it was just clogged. So all I had to do was like take the top off and and clear the clog and I was good to go. But I'd already re-dug it.
Yeah.
So I had like, I dug this thing up twice on a day and I didn't need to.
Oh man.
So frustrating. But dude, but hey, it's fixed now.
Yeah.
And hopefully better than the first time. So, well, yeah.
And I, you know, you, you had your bad experience and I, I had mine with the, uh, the, the Ryobi sprayer. Yeah.
Yeah. So we just got through talking about that last episode, right?
Well, so to be clear, I'm not talking about the backpack. The backpack. Still is working great.
Sure.
But because it works so great, we decided to try out the Ryobi handheld sprayer.
Right.
Which, you know, same company.
Right.
Should work great.
Sure.
It's terrible.
Mm. How is it terrible? I mean, I know the answer to this.
Well, yeah, 'cause I showed you. It's like, look at this terrible thing. Man, it's like, that's the thing with guys. It's like, if it's great, we're not gonna show you. But like, if it smells bad, it looks bad, or it acts bad, we're gonna like, everyone needs to come over and take a look at this.
That's right. Have you, by the way, have you heard, Ellen DeGeneres, her bit on that?
Yes.
Oh, it's hilarious. If you haven't heard her about the taste this, yeah, you need to go Google that. It's hilarious.
So yeah, no, it's just, I mean, like, I mean, it, yeah, technically it works.
Sure.
It just works terribly.
Yeah, it's not good.
For what I need it, it's no good. Like, if I was just, if all I was spraying was Roundup, it might be fine.
Well, maybe, except the fact that You, you're, you're either going to kill one blade of grass or the entire thing, like all your whole yard.
Yeah. So like, it's either, it's either like pin stream or giant fan. I mean, like there's no in between. There's no nuance to that, to that spray nozzle, which is weird because it, I mean, like it's a metal tip. You'd think it would have like a little bit of give to the, the amount of cone that you get in that spray, which I mean, like those of you that use sprayers know that that's pretty important.
Yeah.
Um, which is why they put different tips in different sprayers and all that kind of stuff. But There's ways around that by putting a, um, a variable cone.
Sure.
On there.
Well, and, and just real briefly, and we're not going to do a whole review on this today, but there were a couple of other really annoying things about it.
Yeah, like it never turned off.
Yeah.
Which means it's just constantly draining the battery.
Yeah, it's got like this constant hum of the motor.
Yeah, which is not loud, but it's just annoying.
Yeah, it's just— I mean, if you're not actively spraying it, then why does it need to be on? Yeah, but it is. And then the other thing for me was it's really just uncomfortable to hold the nozzle. Like, you can't— like, a lot of, a lot of sprayers have like a full hand grip, your hand grip, and this one just is a thumb.
Yeah.
So you're literally having to hold the thing down with your thumb only, and it— that just gets tiring.
Yeah. And which is weird because, I mean, like, that, that trigger feels really cheap, um, compared to the rest of the nozzle, which is metal. Sure.
And yeah, that's true.
Um, and then the— and it's just a, it's a whole different setup from the backpack. The backpack's just way, way, way better.
Yeah. Um, so I mean, I guess if you're a gamer, your thumbs are really strong. Maybe.
I don't know. Well, if they are, you might break this one.
No doubt.
Gamer thumbs are like fiddler crabs. So yeah, but yeah, it's, uh, what an unimpressive product. To my— so hear me now, Ryobi, I am fair. Your backpack is great, your handheld is a stinker. That's right.
And you might look at this thing and go, man, that thing looks awesome.
It does look awesome.
It does. Yeah, there's a lot of metal on it. It's like, it's a cool looking—
I'm like, and there's a lot of functionality to it.
It's actually really cool.
Yeah, but like, if it doesn't perform, and I don't— it doesn't matter.
No, I'd rather get one of those cheap— for me, from what I— you showed me I would prefer to go get one of those cheap plastic sprayers.
It's gonna do just as good a job. You're just, the only difference is gonna be that you're gonna be pumping it.
Yeah.
All the time. So, which, I mean, like if they hold pressure, whoop-de-doo. Yeah.
Um, I mean, and most of the time you can get a pretty good swath done without having to repressurize.
Yeah.
You know, it's not that bad.
Yeah. But I mean, like, you know, if you don't mind spending the extra buck, just get the backpack. Yeah. It's the same battery. It's a lot more comfortable.
And, and what is like $60 more expensive to get the backpack?
Yeah.
Yeah. It's not that much more.
So yeah.
Get, get the good stuff.
Mm-hmm. Every time. Every time. Is it with the episode we did with Zeno where he was like, that was, that was the thing. He goes, all my regrets are when I didn't spend enough. Right?
Yes. Yep. Um, that's right. So it's a good lesson. Get what works. And that's kind of a perfect segue. Into what we're going to be talking about tonight.
Yeah. What we got tonight?
Well, so, uh, just recently I've, I've been envious of some people in my family that have a, a vac— certain vacuum cleaner. And the— it— so we're going to be talking about the, the Dyson, uh, it's, it's their small motorhead or animal It's a cordless stick vacuum.
Okay.
Um, they've got a couple of names for the, for the different models, but, um, this thing is cordless and it's a Dyson, right? And I wanted it specifically for our camper.
Okay.
Because if you've ever been camping, especially if you, or you own a camper, you know that, I mean, you're just tracking stuff in all the time, right? You know, and Unfortunately, the old— we have an old camper. It's a '97 model. Um, we love it, but it's got carpet in it. And so when we go camping, especially at Thanksgiving where we go for Thanksgiving, it's like, and there's always stuff tracking in. And I've got like this little bitty— have you seen those 1-gallon Shop-Vacs?
Yeah.
Yeah, I've got one of those. Yeah, it's, it's fine, but it's just, it's cumbersome. It doesn't have a rotary head on it or anything. And so it's just kind of like, yeah, this is fine, but you don't want to take like a full upright vacuum cleaner with you camping. And so I've been kind of telling my wife, like, I'd love to have one of these things because it's small, it's lightweight, it's, it's cordless, and it would be super easy to just take on, you know, trips with us. And, and so I finally had a gift card. I was like, I'm gonna go spend this gift card and buy this thing. And actually wound up buying it
at Sam's. It was on sale. It was $150 off its normal price.
Oh.
So it was normally $350. to buy this thing. I bought it, uh, for $200, which is significantly less expensive.
Yeah.
And so I brought it home, told my wife how much I spent on it. She's like, take it back. I was like, seriously? She's like, it's $200, and we've got a vacuum cleaner. It's not that big of a deal. And I'm like, just hear me out on this. Like, hear me out. So I'm telling her all the reasons I need to, need to have this thing. And this was, this was the kicker. This is the thing that for her, she was like, okay, You can keep it for that reason. Our children can use it to vacuum their own rooms.
Ah.
My 5-year-old vacuums his own room with this thing.
Nice. 'Cause it's not as heavy.
No, it's super lightweight. I wonder if I have information here on how heavy it is. It's like, I don't know, it's like 5, 6 pounds.
Oh, wow.
So yeah, it's super lightweight and it does a great job. So I, I originally was looking at, uh, so we bought the version 7. So it's the Dyson, uh, Motorhead V7 is what we bought the first time. And I wound up taking it back because then I found this other one was $150 off and it was the Animal. So the difference is the Animal is specifically for like, they have a couple of extra Uh, attachments to them, right? Because of pets. Okay, so it's not called the Animal like because it's an animal, you know what I mean?
That was a lovely face you made just now.
You got to be watching on YouTube.
You need facial expressions.
Um, but it's got a couple of extra attachments with it, so I'm like, okay, you get a nicer vacuum with more attachments for a lot less money. So Took it back, got that one, and man, I've just been really impressed with this thing. Um, so it's got the power of what you would expect to come from a Dyson, but like the convenience of this is what I absolutely love. So, um, I, I don't know about you, but at my house we've had for a long time a Dustbuster.
Okay.
You know what I'm talking about?
I know what you're talking about. Like the Black Decker.
I've never had one, but I know what you're talking about, yeah. So like the Black Decker Dustbuster, and it's made that. Like, you sweep up the, you know, the kitchen, whatever, and use this little Dustbuster, and it's super easy, gets up all the stuff.
Well, the rest of us peasants have dustpans.
Really?
Still?
Okay, well, I guess there's that.
Yeah.
Uh, so this takes it like to a whole nother level because now you've got an actual vacuum cleaner to— rather than just like this measly little Dustbuster. And so it's, it mounts on the wall.
Mm-hmm.
And the charger, um, so you just kind of clip it in to this, to this mount and it, the mount holds some of the heads.
It's like something that's on the wall.
Yeah. Okay. And, and then it holds some of the attachment heads and the, like the, the cord, the charge cord plugs into that mount. And so whenever you have it mounted on the wall, it's plugged in, it's charged all the time. And it gets—
I mean, so it doesn't have like a— it's not like these other ones where like it's a different— you can plug in different batteries. No, it's got a battery that's in there that you have to plug in to recharge.
Yeah, so I'll say this, I actually looked at the Ryobi version. They have one.
Yeah, I saw that. Yeah.
Yeah. Um, and I started looking at the reviews and I almost bought it. It's cheaper. Uh, and I've already got batteries for it, right? And I'm like, listen, whenever I go camping I typically take a drill or something, and I've got— so I've got my Ryobi, at least one Ryobi battery with me at all times. And I'm like, okay, this, this would be a good, a good thing. But when you start doing the research, it just doesn't perform as well as a Dyson.
Right.
I was like, man, I'm just gonna go with the one that performs better. So, sure. But the bad part is it's got an internal battery that you can't change, right?
So if it goes, it goes.
If it goes, it goes. But I mean, when you look at reviews, you don't hear people saying like, oh look, the battery went out in this thing and now I can't use it ever again.
Sure.
So, and I mean, there's maybe— there is a way to change the battery out, I don't know. Um, but either way, you, you lock it in and it charges, and it's kind of an all-in-one unit. So the, the convenience of that is super nice. And I think— so there's 2 different suction modes. You've got kind of the heavy suction mode and the, and the regular suction mode. On heavy suction mode, I mean, that thing, it's got some power.
Mm-hmm.
But you're probably only gonna get like 7 or 8 minutes runtime out of it.
Oh.
Which is not much. It's one of those deals where it's like, I know I got a lot of something there and I need to get it up. So I'm gonna use that. But the regular suction, it does a really good job, and you'll get like— I got about 30 minutes out of it.
Okay.
Um, which my house, I got 2,400 square feet and all the bedrooms— so we got 4 bedrooms, they're all carpet, and our living room is carpet, and we got a couple of rug area rugs. I can, I can do the entire house in, in one charge.
Okay.
Um, so, you know, it does pretty good.
And so is it— I mean, I guess, are you guys using this instead of your old vacuum cleaner now?
Yeah, so that's a really good question. That was one of my other— my wife's other complaints to begin with. She was like, we've got a vacuum, right? And it's really good. And we have a— we have a Shark.
Yeah, Shark makes a good vacuum.
They make a great vacuum cleaner. In fact, um, it's— they, they've got some technology that really does rival the Dyson if you get the right one. And, um, whichever one we have, I can't remember, um, It's like the Intimidator or something like that. Um, it's a great vacuum, and it's, you know, it's a regular corded vacuum, and I— it, it does not have as much suction as my corded upright. It just doesn't.
You're talking about the new Dyson?
The new Dyson. It does not have as much. However, um, it does a really good job And if I'm just vacuuming my house with my regular upright vacuum cleaner, I, first of all, it takes me a lot longer because I'm hunting for plugs, hunting for plugs, moving the cord, you know, all that kind of stuff. And it just takes more time. It's a heavier vacuum. It's more difficult to maneuver. And this thing, I can, it takes a lot less time and I'm not having to, it just feels different because I mean, it's just handheld.
Right.
Really easy. It's lightweight. It feels a lot different. And I mean, I find myself vacuuming more often. I find myself just picking it up and being like, oh.
It's actually convenient to do. Yeah.
It absolutely is. I don't have to drag the cord out and it doesn't have a, you know, 30-foot cord on it or anything that you're trying to drag across the house, having to wind it up, all that kind of stuff. And I just find myself vacuuming more often. And whenever I, whenever I clear the dustbin, which is really super easy, it's just one button and the thing dumps. Um, you close it back up with a click. Um, I, I dump a lot of stuff out.
So I mean, does it, does it hold quite a bit? I mean, it does, because when you're telling me it's only like 4 or 5 pounds, I mean, like, I can't imagine it having that big of a container on it.
Yeah, I mean, it's not nearly, again, what you're gonna get out of most upright corded, because the Shark has like a canister. It does.
That's like an unbagged canister, right? Yeah. Okay.
Yeah. In fact, Many, many, many non-commercial vacuum cleaners today have these canisters because they're super convenient. They're easy. You don't have to buy bags. You don't have to keep them in stock, all that kind of stuff. And so this is a canister too, uh, and I can typically get a couple of bedrooms without having to dump it.
Okay.
And it's, it's really easy to dump. And so, uh, depend— the more often I do it, the less I have to dump it. So, you know, Um, as long as it's not super dirty in the house, it's, it's not a big deal.
So here's the other big one. Um, wet dry or just dry?
Uh, I, I have not ever used it on wet, and I do not think you're supposed to.
Okay.
Um, I've not seen anywhere that it says you can do it wet, and so I don't, I don't think you're supposed to. But I— that kind of leads me into another portion here is like I mentioned that there's quite a few more attachments, right, for this one. So let me just kind of run through the attachments just so you know what they are.
Yeah, yeah.
Um, so they've got the regular rotary, um, you know, the, the spinny wheel, spinny brushy thing.
Yeah.
Um, which by the way, you know, hair and thread and other things get caught in all of those things. It's no easier or different, more difficult to clean than Than most.
I mean, it's pretty simple. I gotta confess something to you here.
What's that?
It's actually one of my favorite things to do is to clean off the wheel.
You're weird.
I love that.
Why?
Well, part of it is I get to see how sharp my pocket knife is.
Oh, okay.
And so it like tells me whether or not I need to sharpen it.
If I can cut this whole wad of hair.
That's right. If I can get it all with one swath, I feel like, I feel like such a boss.
Yeah.
Yeah. And then there's like the satisfaction of after you cut it, it just all kind of peels off like a sheet.
Oh yeah, it does. So yeah. Well, and I'll tell you this, Um, so in my Shark, whenever you turn it over, um, there's like 2 little plastic pieces in the middle of the roller. I'm not real sure what they're— if they're there for stability or whatever. So you have to like make multiple swipes with the pocket knife or whatever. This thing doesn't have that. So you can, you can cut all the way across. Yep.
That would be so cool.
Cut all the way across.
I'd love that.
Hey, tell you what, you can come over to my house anytime you want to.
All right.
and cut the hair out.
I'll do it. I like it. I mean, we don't— I mean, like, well, one, I don't really clean my house anymore.
Okay.
Uh, Tanya takes care of that for me.
She does. So you don't have to worry about it.
I haven't vacuumed in— I can't remember when. So, well, and we don't really have much to vacuum anymore since we like gutted the house.
Sure.
We got all wood and tile. And so, well, so, so continue on with your attachments.
Well, that's one of the reasons that I liked the Animal specifically is because It has an attachment for hardwood floors.
OK.
And basically what it is, is it's the same size as the roller brush, only there's no roller brush in it.
OK.
And so, uh, it's got, it's got little ports that whenever you just run it across—
I guess it's got like soft pieces to keep it from scratching it.
Exactly. And so you just run it across the hardwood floor or tile or whatever, and it just doesn't have the rotary. However, um, I, I use the rotary on the hardwood sometimes and it's fine. Works good. But, but that other attachment actually works really, really well, um, on, on hard surfaces. So you have to get the Animal version in order to get those, at least in the version that I've got, you have to get the Animal version in order to get that extra attachment. Um, so other attachments it's got is it's got what's called a, what they call a combination tool.
Mm-hmm.
So this is, um, You know the, the attachment that most vacuums have that's got like— it's just a small attachment, um, it's typically like round or oval, it's got bristles on it.
Yeah.
For like upholstery and stuff. So it's got that, but you can click it in a back, like a back position, and it's got, it's got an— same, the same attachment without the bristles.
Okay.
So I mean, I guess you can use that on, on various applications, but Um, cereal off the floor. That, that would be the one.
There you go.
Yeah.
It's a cereal attachment.
It's a cereal attachment. Now we know what it's called.
That's right.
Um, so it's got kind of a 2-in-1 and then it's got the, uh, the crevice tool. Okay. You know, you don't talk about like, yeah, to get, you know, by baseboards and, and things like that. So that's what car seats— yes, that is so, so helpful.
Exactly. That's the only thing it's for.
That's exactly right. Um, which we're gonna get to that in a minute. Um, but then the animal version has— so, so you take away that hardwood floor. The regular version has the combination tool, the crevice tool, and the main rotary tool.
Okay.
Okay, you go to the animal version and then you get a what they call a soft dusting brush. So it's, um, the bristles are, are soft and you can use it on, you know, I don't know, keyboards and desks and Okay, more delicate types of things. And then it's also got a small rotary tool that's maybe 4 inches wide. And so the, the main— they call it the stick vacuum because it's, it's got a long tube that's probably 2 inches in diameter that is from your hand down to the tool, right?
Right.
Uh, the rotary brush or whatever. And so, you know, that way it's not like a Dustbuster, it's like a regular vacuum, and you can get up high with it if you're trying to get up high with it. Super lightweight if you want to do fans or blinds or—
Drapes or whatever.
Get that cobweb that's up in the corner, super easy to do that with because it's lightweight. Um, and like my Shark, I have to like, I have to take the thing out, the wand out, and it's on a hose, and I'm like, am I far enough away? Am I close enough to the actual— you know what I mean? It's like This is more trouble than it's worth sometimes. And so it's got that, but you can take that whole stick, the long stick off, and you can attach any of the crev— any of the, like the crevice tool or any of the tools directly to the head.
Yeah.
And use it close.
Okay.
And so the, one of the reasons that they do that is specifically for vehicles. So that little 4-inch rotary tool is great for your car.
Okay.
Um, and it's got a swivel head on it, so like you can get into places differently because you can hold it up high or down low and the— it'll stay level with your, with your surface. So if that makes sense.
The way you're describing it, I'm, I'm envisioning it having like a long tube always. Is it, is it where you can like shorten it and you can make it smaller, or how does that work?
So that, that whole tube comes off.
Okay, so you can make it— you could put that rotary just right up there Yes. Okay, I got you.
So that's cool. So basically it's got— so, so you've got that long tube and on either end it's got an attachment. So that long tube can attach directly to the motor, right, the hand that's in your hand, and then you attach another tool to the bottom of it, right? So you can take that whole stick off and take any of the rotary tools or any of the, uh, the actual cleaning tools And attach it directly to the handheld motor.
That's awesome.
Yeah, any of them. So you can use them up close or use the stick for more length.
So do you have different length of sticks or is it just one length?
Just one length.
Okay.
But I mean, I found that you don't really need a separate length of stick. I mean, unless you've got—
They've done the math.
They know you're this tall probably and all that kind of stuff.
Well, 'cause like, I think the vacuum, I think we still have it. It's a Shark. Again, we don't take it out. Um, but like it was the one that like you had multiple lengths of like the, 'cause there was like the flexi tube. Yep. But then there was like the different, you could unattach it at different points.
Yeah.
And make it short or long. Mm-hmm. On the, on the hard side. Yeah. And then attach a tool or, or whatever. Um, and it was always really cool to just take it off the top and just have that. You know, yeah.
So this, imagine this is similar, only there's only a short and a long basically, right? And you're not being bound by that flexi tube and the— exactly, power cord. Yeah. So yeah, in the, in the cord. So the, the thing that was really nice, I mean, just getting rid of the cord, I mean, right off the bat, I'm, I'm in, man. I'm telling you, it, it— when, when you—
I'm gonna vacuum everything. Yeah, I mean, whatever you think about—
That's right. I mean, whenever you think about the fact your house vacuumed I'll do it. I can come over. There's no cord. I'll even, I'll even clean up the hair afterwards.
You might think I need a 200-footer. No, I do not. Yeah.
And so, you know, I, I actually, uh, just sold a vehicle a few weeks ago.
Yep.
And, and I took this thing out and, and used it to clean my vehicle. And man, it was unbelievable. I mean, To use an actual vacuum to go out into the not house and vacuum. And first of all, you got to have a plug close enough.
Yeah.
And then you got to drag the cord, make sure you're, you know, and then you got to use the, the tools that's still connected to the main vacuum to get into the, you know, the very middle of the back seat, all that kind of stuff. And it was just, it's cumbersome to do. And with this thing, it was just so easy because I didn't have to worry about a cord. And it— I was able to use that short, um, that short, shorter style for, you know, the crevice tool. And then that rotary tool, man, it, it worked great. I mean, when you go to the car wash and they got those free vacuums, they're, they're fine.
Yeah.
But they're lacking.
Sure.
I mean, because there's no rotary tool. And so you're trying to, you're trying to clean carpet without any type of rotary head, and it's just It's just not gonna do the same type of work. So this gives you that option. And you can use the regular rotary head if you want to.
Mm-hmm.
But—
It's a little big for the—
Just a little big for a vehicle.
But I mean, like, you know, if you needed to swap out those heads, you could probably carry the extra ones in your fanny pack.
Well, morons could.
Well, you.
No, I couldn't.
In your unicorn one.
Nope, nope. That thing holds only guns. That's all it holds. So. Now you know. Joke's on you.
It's not concealed anymore.
Oh, it's still concealed. Even if you know it's in there, it's still concealed, right?
No, I think that— I think that's open carrying.
No, it's got a zipper.
I don't think it matters. I like— I'm, I'm actually like, I'm wondering about— because like, even if you have a strap over the top of your holster, it's still open carry if it's outside and in the open.
Yeah, but if it's in a bag I don't know. It's still— I mean, because they got purses that are concealed.
I need you to go down to the gun store and ask these guys.
Forget the gun store. My brother-in-law's a cop. He was on an episode, remember?
Yeah, but I want you to have the experience of going, is it concealed in my fanny pack? And I want to be standing behind you with an iPhone.
Your mom's got that covered. You don't need her to— she could just AirDrop that thing to Yeah.
She's always watching. Sure.
There's no doubt.
Have you found any more?
Um, I actually did find, uh, a few more. They were in, they were in an area, uh, where I work that is completely closed off during certain times. And she had gone back in there and like taped them to tables.
Oh, that's awesome.
And I, yeah, it wasn't, it wasn't awesome. I laughed. Don't get me wrong, I laughed. I had one of those little chuckle moments and I was like, ah, Craig's mom. You know? And she, and she is secretly at home. Somehow she knows telepathically.
She does.
And she's, she's giggling herself.
Yeah.
So yeah, I, yeah, that was, that was a good prank.
Yeah.
It was good.
It was a good one.
So anyway, where were we?
We were talking about the different, the different head units that you were using in your car.
Oh yeah, that's right. Um, anyway, it made it really easy.
You said you could use the big one, but like, why would you?
The little one works a little better.
It's got the swivel head on it. And, and I think you were gonna say something about the crevice tool because—
Oh well, just, I mean, it attaches directly to the, to the head too. And like, you can get in and around car seats and, you know, in between like the console and the seat really, really easily. And you're not having to worry about, oh, is the tube long enough, like angling it just right and everything. It's just easy.
Yeah.
And so—
Are all of them rigid? I mean, I know you said the little rotary has like a swivel head, but are all of them rigid?
Yes.
Okay.
Yeah, none of them have any type of like a flexible tube.
Okay.
No, they're all, they're all rigid. But like I said, specifically for that smaller rotary one, uh, the head on it swivels Mm-hmm. Not left and right. It swivels kind of up and down.
Okay.
To give you more of an angle.
Like contour.
Yeah. So it gives you— your arm can go up or down and it'll still stay kind of flat with the surface.
So like, I know, like with like a Shop-Vac, I mean, you always have like the kind of flexy hose. Have you found that like that has hindered you in any way of being able to get to stuff?
No, no, no, not yet. I mean, I just, I haven't found a need for that. Um, I mean, there, there very likely could come a time, but the thing is, since you don't have a cord, you can take that thing into places that you wouldn't be able to get it to otherwise.
Well, that's kind of what I was thinking is like, because usually it's like, okay, I got to get this hose over the seat or like, and it won't reach like all the way across the car. So I got to go back around the other side. But like with this, I mean, just keep on going through.
I mean, because with a shop vac, you've got to, get the dirty to the canister, right? Well, the canister is literally in your hand.
Yeah.
So wherever you can kind of get your hand to, I mean, it, it fits in so many places. It's just, it has not been an issue. And so a couple of things for my wife that was kind of like, okay, yeah, we can keep that thing, is A, my kids literally vacuum their own rooms. So lately we've been like, hey, vacuum your room and pick one other room. and vacuum it. And they, they think it's a game. Now, I've got young kids, right? You know, the novelty will wear off soon. Yeah, good luck getting your 14-year-old to be like, oh, look at the game of the vacuum cleaner, you know? Um, if you do, I need to know the secret. That would be awesome. But, uh, but right now it's kind of a game to them. They think it's fun.
And so they're vacuuming their own rooms, which is awesome. But also, whenever she saw how how good of a job it did in the vehicle, she was like, look. I mean, because we, we have a Honda Odyssey.
Okay.
And they make those things, if you buy the Elite version, they make those things with a vacuum cleaner built in. Yes.
To the inside of the car?
To the inside of the car.
How's that work?
It, it's in the very back and it's got a hose that you can, it, it stretches the entire length of the the interior of the vehicle.
What?
And it's got a couple of different attachments with it and it's all self-contained.
That's crazy.
I know.
Y'all have that or?
Well, so we bought the model just below that.
Oh, okay.
Because we got a great deal on it. Uh, but no, it doesn't have that.
Okay.
Um, it's got like a little cubby.
When you said that, I, my brain immediately went to like the, the whole home vacuum systems, you know what I'm talking about? Where like the ports in the wall that you just jack into. And I was like, okay, so like the, there's like ports on the sides of the seats that just like suck up stuff.
That would be awesome.
That would be awesome. Elon, get on that.
Yeah, Land Rovers are probably— Land Rover and Tesla are probably gonna come out with it. Yeah. Um, but no, it's, it, it's got one port in the back and it just reaches, okay, around the whole thing. But like, whenever I showed her this, she was like, that's even— this is even better than that because it's cordless, you know? And so So going back to one of your original questions, like, did you get rid of your other vacuum cleaner? I'm like, I don't, we didn't yet because I kind of think that there's probably some applications that that thing's really good for.
Right.
Most likely. Specifically, it's got like a fan blade attachment. So it's super easy to clean fan blades with my other vacuum.
Right.
My corded one. But I— it just does a really good job.
Yeah.
And I'm, I'm impressed with it. $200, like, I know that's expensive for a vacuum cleaner that you think maybe doesn't do as good a job as some other ones, but I'm telling you, I use it a lot more. It's a whole lot more convenient. It's easy. It's lightweight. Like, I can imagine for older people even, you know, that, you know, lugging around a a heavy vacuum cleaner maybe just isn't really easy.
Yeah.
Um, probably be really good for them. And it does a— it's a Dyson. They're not going to put out a product that doesn't perform well.
Well, I think anybody that would tell me that $200 is too much for a vacuum cleaner, I mean, like, I'm sorry, like, a vacuum cleaner, like, you— if you spend that much on a vacuum cleaner, you're probably going to keep it, let's say, longer than 5 years.
Yeah.
I know most of you hosers out there spent way more than that on an Xbox.
Oh yeah.
And those things last like I don't know. I mean, like, their lifespan is like 3 years, 4 years before they replace it with a new console or something like that. I mean, so like, I'm sorry, it's not. $200 is nothing for a vacuum cleaner, especially if it's a good one.
Right.
But I mean, like, people pay way more for vacuum cleaners than that. I mean, like, what's the one that's like $700,000?
$700,000?
No, like $700 or $1,000, like somewhere in that range, right? $700,000. That would be cool. The diamond-plated Hoover.
Oh man, that, that runs on solar power. Endless solar power.
It's Tesla's— not like Nikola Tesla, right? It just absorbs electricity from around it.
And yes, no, uh, well, I mean, what's the really expensive one?
That ever— that the door-to-door one, you know what I'm talking about?
Oh yeah, the, um, um Well, my parents have an old-school Rainbow.
Okay.
Remember the Rainbows? It's a, it's a water canister. They're, they're actually awesome.
Is that the one where the door-to-door salesman would be like, look at the dirty water?
Yes, that's the dirty water one. But then there was the other one, and it's on the tip of my tongue. Kirby. Kirby, is that Kirby? Kirby is the other one. My parents have one of those too. Now I'll tell you one of the things that's really awesome about that. I'm, I'm gonna tell you right now, it's one of the best vacuum cleaners ever.
I— people that, from what I understand, people that have them just rave about them. Yeah, so, so we own We—
my parents own a Rainbow and they own a Kirby. The Rainbow is really awesome for a few different things, but it is a pain in the neck to use because you've got the whole wand system plus a hose plus the canister that you're dragging behind you. It is a pain. Plus the cord. Um, the Kirby, on the other hand, um, it's a bag system, right? And it, man, it is—
You're talking about the paper bags?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Uh, but man, it is, it is amazing how good it is. The thing that is probably coolest thing about that thing is it's got a self-drive.
Oh yeah.
So, so when you push it forward, you don't— you— I mean, again, talking about, you know, older people, people using it, you don't have to use any muscle.
I mean, you—
it, it kind of understands whenever you're pushing it forward, detects when you're pushing it forward, and it starts going. It's got auto drive. Like a throttle in the handle almost.
Yeah.
Yep. And it— whenever you go backwards, it It does the same thing.
So the, the rainbow one that you're talking about, that's actually one of my favorite, uh, Everybody Loves Raymond episodes.
Yes.
Where like he gets excited about the vacuum cleaner.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah. If you haven't, if you haven't ever seen that one, great Everybody Loves Raymond episode.
Go find it.
About vacuum cleaners.
Yeah. Um, so, but like that one, that, that rainbow is really awesome because like it's got a whole nother attachment to it that, um, it's got like this bag system and you can put like Um, like pillows and, you know, like couch cushions and stuff in there.
Oh, like you put the bag around it and you're like, yes, it like shrinks it.
Yes.
Yeah, those things are crazy.
They— but the amount of junk that it pulls, dust that it pulls out of that stuff is a little bit disgusting. But for that reason alone, it would be worth having access to one every once in a while. But, um, no, I mean, you're right, $200, that's what I paid for it. Um, normally it's $350. Um, and right now I'm looking on Amazon right now, it's $320. So try to find it on sale somewhere else. Um, sometimes other— I, like I said, I found mine at Sam's Club. But going back to kind of like me saying it's good, Amazon, it's got almost 1,400 star, uh, 4.5-star ratings.
Okay.
So Amazon thinks it's good. So, uh, I, I'm I would tell you to go— oh, there's only 5 left in stock. Obviously people are buying them. So, um, I, I would tell you it is definitely worth the money. I'm glad I bought it. My wife is now glad I bought it.
How much is it on Amazon?
It's $320.
And is it Prime?
It is.
So if you're a Prime member, you can finance that booger.
What? Finance?
Yeah.
Oh, because they've, they've got the credit card, right? Yeah, yeah.
It'll be like $24 a month or something like that.
Yeah, it's cheap.
So yep.
And if you don't have one of those, you get like $70 off instantly. Yeah, if you go apply for it.
There you go.
But anyway, I'm glad I bought it. I would tell you to go buy another one. I've not used it yet in my camper, but because I've used it in a vehicle, I know it'll be fantastic in my camper. Um, and it's got like the— one of the things I didn't mention, it's got, you know, they've got kind of their ball, their rollerball version, and it kind of, you know, you kind of twist your wrist and it turns. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The primary roller brush has that on it.
Okay.
And so you just kind of twist your wrist and it turns.
Kind of, yeah.
It goes around corners and those sorts of things.
So are you gonna have to get a separate charging station for your camper?
Well, that's a good question. My brother has this same one, only he's got the motorhead version. He doesn't have all the extra attachments. And he did, he went on eBay and found just the charger port and bought that for his camper. So that way he can just take it and plug it into his camper.
That seems like the way easier solution than trying to take it off the wall wherever you put it.
Yeah, now that being said, you can just take the charging cord out of the mount. Like it's just a regular cord that plugs into the mount.
Okay.
And so whenever you, whenever you put the vacuum into the mount, it automatically plugs in just the way it's built.
Yeah.
But you can take that out and just plug it into an outlet anywhere you want to. So, and until we find, uh, just the mount for it, we'll probably just do that. It's not as convenient. Um, but I mean, you can take the, you can take that stick off, like the, the long tube, you can take that off and just charge the head and put that stick somewhere else. So it's, it could still be kind of small, put, put up somewhere if you didn't want to mount it somewhere and still keep it plugged in all the time. So yeah, we, it, we will eventually buy a separate dock. I, I have not found, and maybe they sell them. I've not found it yet. I've not, but I've
not gone.
I mean, especially if they know that like the RV community is kind of like, hey, this thing's really cool.
Why? How would they not know that?
Or maybe they're just like, listen, just buy 2.
Yeah, if you can afford an RV, buy 2 of these things. Um, no, I, I don't know. I haven't looked, so I haven't found one because I haven't looked. All right, but they probably have them somewhere. And if not, eBay.
Or you can just make one.
You probably could.
I mean, people out there have 3D printing machines, and that's so true. So just make your own. That's right. Stop being so lazy, Kev. Jeez.
That's what people say about me.
Kev's lazy. Took me 5 minutes to figure it out. That's— I don't even have a 3D printer.
But you know someone who does, then you're in good shape.
I, maybe I do. I don't know.
I don't, I'm sure I do too.
Some nerd out there.
Yeah.
Wanting to make things on a 3D printer for me. I agree to join his D&D clan.
Yeah. Not, not that we're saying they're related, just It's likely. It's a good assumption. Yeah, that's all. Oh, that's all I got. You got any other questions about it?
No? Although I heard something cool about, um, uh, my buddy Colin was telling me something about a vacuum earlier this week. He said there was, um, these guys that decided to make a baseball launcher.
Oh, I've seen this.
And so like you can either make it where it's in a vacuum or with a pressurized air behind it.
Okay.
And so, and I need to ask him to send me the link and we'll put it up in the show notes. But he said they were like, well, if both work, what if we put them together?
Oh gosh.
So they put them together. Apparently they broke the sound barrier with a baseball.
Yeah, didn't this thing like, didn't it have like 1,050 mile an hour speed?
Something like that, yeah.
I think it was 1,050. And you think about this, like—
Apparently, like, shattered like a plate of steel or something like that. It was like a baseball.
So did you see the picture of the baseball? Like, it completely—
To be completely fair, I have not watched the video. He was just telling me about it.
OK.
I need to go look it up, or he needs to send it to me.
Yeah.
I was like, hey, send it to me. I wanna watch it.
Yeah, it's insane because this baseball comes apart.
Mmhmm.
Like, the whole—
Like, disintegrates almost.
Yeah, all of the— All of the, the, the lacing like comes apart and the, the baseball is, is exploding, so to speak.
So just like in The Sandlot?
Yes, yes. And, and I mean, you think about it, like the fastest pitchers in Major League Baseball, I mean, they're throwing the ball 104 miles an hour. Yeah, like that's ridiculous speed, right? You know, some of the fastest are throwing 99.
Right.
100.
Consistently.
Consistently. 1050?
That's, yeah.
That, I, I, there's no way in my brain to register what that is like without watching this video.
Yeah.
It's pretty amazing.
I just started swinging yesterday.
I, I would actually like to see you swing hard enough to, to hit it that hard. I would like to see. You'd probably die.
Yeah.
Yeah. Your, your arms would come out of their sockets.
Yeah, you're talking about bees in your hand, man.
Oh gosh. Yeah, that would be amazing. We'll try to find that video and link it up because that would be pretty cool.
And it's relevant to today's topic.
It is.
Vacuum cleaners. Yeah.
Suction and velocity. Yeah.
Go hand in hand.
Yeah, obviously. Obviously.
Yeah, that's it, man.
Cool. Well, thanks for downloading today's episode. If you haven't already, click the subscribe button.
Yep.
Download whatever you have to do.
Pay no attention to Kevin's incoherence.
Yeah.
Follow us in all the places.
Yeah, do it. It's there. Hey, um, so right now, uh, there's like— there's a— there's an Apple Podcast on Apple TV, right? You can go look at it there. We're there. There, uh, the new version of, uh, the, the macOS, they've got like a little podcast icon on the bottom.
Oh, okay.
And just changed it. We're there.
Nice.
We're in all kinds of places.
Yeah, we're on, uh, uh, we're hanging out with Rogan over on his new platform because he switched over now.
Right.
Have you seen like how they're doing that stuff now?
No.
Dude, we can put our videos up there on— what, what, what, what's the platform he's on? It's, um, I keep wanting to say Switcher, but Stitcher.
Stitcher.
Is it Stitcher? No, it's Spotify.
Spotify's the one.
Yeah.
Yep.
So, but like, so because they'd never done video before.
Oh, okay. And he's making it all happen. Yeah. Yeah.
So, and like, it looks good.
Yeah.
So I checked, I checked it out when, because he, uh, they started putting his stuff up in September. Um, now the interesting thing is he's still able to put his stuff on YouTube. Like, it's, it's not—
Oh, you can do both?
Yeah.
It's not proprietary?
No.
I thought it was.
Well, so here's the deal is the, the deal with What makes the Spotify deal so intriguing to his fans is it's ad-free.
Mm, that's awesome.
So, that's—
Where YouTube is not gonna be ad-free.
No, you're gonna get ads.
Yeah. Um, well, if you don't have like a YouTube Red account or whatever it is. Premiere or whatever it is.
Um, and—
Premium.
YouTube, they've changed it a bunch.
Whatever it is.
Yeah. So, so that, that's the big draw. And, and it's like, um, So to me, one of the annoying things about YouTube is like if you don't have a premium account and you like turn the screen off, it just stops everything.
You can't hear the audio.
If you're on Spotify and you're watching the video and you're like, oh, I need to drive now, you can just switch it off and the audio keeps going.
That's helpful.
So I mean, like, you know, they're, they're luring me in all the right ways right now. So like, you know, we probably need to look at getting our video up there. Um, just to, just to see how it, how that functions, because that's a service that they're offering now.
Okay, let's do it. So I mean, we, we are on YouTube. Last week's video came up a little bit late, but we got it up and, uh, trying to get those up every week with some clips, all that kind of stuff. So check us out on YouTube. And, uh, man, thanks for, thanks for downloading today's episode. Hopefully it was helpful to you. If it was, leave us a rating and review. That would be awesome. Go to, go to iTunes.
It's the least you can do.
It literally is the least you could do. Yeah, well, I mean, I guess you could do less. You could, you could. Doing less is what you've already been doing. Why don't you do more? Come on now, be a person. Be a person that likes us. Come on. Uh, anyway, we appreciate y'all, you guys. We're gonna be here every Tuesday, so thanks for listening. Until next time, we'll see you later.
See ya.
